No … spread the game … and the wealth
The cricket has been gripping in the first Test between England and New Zealand and there has been much to admire in the bowling. But even though England supporters will be delighted that their side should win the first game of their post-Ashes reset — New Zealand need another 218 runs with seven wickets left and the pitch is getting no easier — the state of the most scrutinised 22 yards of turf in the world remains a major headache for the wider game. And, while that remains the case, it will become harder and harder for cricket to justify holding so many of its most important games at Lord's — such a wonderful venue with such an imperfect stage. Ruining the weekend for so many people 😡
"This ground has got SO MUCH going for it... but the bit in the middle is the most important, and it's not good enough." 😬 Nasser Hussain not holding back on this Lord's pitch...

When we were making Movin’ With Nancy, I knew I wanted each song to tell its own story, each independent of the other, essentially music videos before music videos.  “Some Velvet Morning” is one of the most haunting and visually striking segments in the special. Hear how it came together through archival audio of director Jack Haley, Jr. and me reflecting on its creation. Nearly 60 years later, “Some Velvet Morning” is still as mysterious and hypnotic as ever. I love that people continue to discover the song and try to determine its meaning. Maybe one day they’ll figure it out and share it with me, because I still don’t know what the hell it’s about! 😜  Preorder Light in the Attic Records’ definitive reissue of Movin’ With Nancy on CD and Some Velvet Morning purple vinyl at the link below. 🛍️ nancysinatra.komi.io

Wasting time at home against Burnley to win the league 🥱 and as usual big decisions go for the slimy six - Havertz should have been sent off here - nailed on red if it was a Burnley player

I can confirm that I will be requesting the permission of the NEC to stand in the Makerfield by-election. I grew up in this area and have lived here for 25 years. I care deeply about it and its people. I know they have been let down by national politics. Ten years ago, I decided to leave Westminster. Why? Because, after 16 years, I came to the conclusion that our national political system does not work for areas like ours. I learnt this fighting its failure to invest in the Wigan borough, for justice for the Hillsborough families and against its treatment of Greater Manchester during the pandemic. Over the last decade, I have been challenging this failure from the outside and building a new and better way of doing politics. We have built Greater Manchester into the fastest-growing city-region in the UK and put buses back under public control, introducing a £2 fare cap to help people with cost-of-living pressures. However, there is only so much that can be done from Greater Manchester. Much bigger change is needed at a national level if everyday life is to be made more affordable again. This is why I now seek people’s support to return to Parliament: to bring the change we have brought to Greater Manchester to the whole of the UK and make politics work properly for people. Millions are struggling and they need the Labour Government to succeed. It has already made changes to make life better for them in its first two years. After this week, we owe it to people to come back together as a Labour movement, giving the Prime Minister and the Government the space and stability they need as the by-election takes place. I want to recognise the difficult decision taken by Josh Simons and the sacrifice he and his family are making. I have worked closely with him as Mayor on issues like flooding and illegal waste dumping and have seen first-hand how effective he has been. He has put the communities of Makerfield first, made a real difference for them and should take great pride in that. Finally, I truly do not take a single vote for granted and will work hard to regain the trust of people in the Makerfield constituency, many of whom have long supported our party but lost faith in recent times. We will change Labour for the better and make it a party you can believe in again. ENDS

"I struggle to think of a time at Anfield, certainly when Liverpool haven't got beat, where I've found watching the side more infuriating." "That was about as fractious and sanity testing as I've seen a Liverpool performance." Post-Match Show 🔜

I will always support Liverpool. Always. But I have never felt more disconnected from the club than I do right now simply because of the manager. Results aren't everything but Slot shows no signs of improving the club OR his relationship with the supporters. Enough is enough.

Why did Farage run scared from news interviews today? It’s because there’s something fishy about the £5 million he took. And he knows it. He’s normally very happy to shout from a TV studio -as long as he controls the terms. The truth is that cash wasn’t for Reform. Watch👇
