👉 City of Culture 2025. People have been saying which culture? How racist. Anyway, Bradford's getting a new tower to celebrate.

I thought Reeves was supposed to be ‘very depressed’ about the economy, but it looks like she's having a great time at our expense.

Welcome to 350 years ago: In 1675, King Charles II attempted to ban coffeehouses in England decreeing that coffeehouses were filled with intellectuals and merchants gossiping with the potential they were plotting against him. Additionally, the king was concerned about the spread of false and malicious reports that could lead to the defamation of his government and disturbances of peace.

@RupertLowe10 Can you also please add to your list the cost in Legal Aid paid out. Two years ago a grooming gang in Bradford which inflicted a two-year rape ordeal on a girl received £435,643 in Legal Aid. Eight paedophiles drove the drugged teen to parks, flats and isolated spots where they raped her from the age of 14. The gang was found guilty on 23 counts of rape and jail terms totalling 78 years were handed out. David Spencer, from the Centre of Crime Prevention, said at the time: “It is staggering that anyone would think that this is the best use of nearly half a million pounds of taxpayers money.

👉 A reminder that Keir Starmer was Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) from 2008 to 2013 which coincided with the height of investigations into Pakistani Grooming Gangs. During this time he admitted that the justice system had failed victims. On leaving his role as DDP he was awarded a special tax free pension without allowance cap. A specific piece of legislation was passed known as "The Pensions Increase (Pension Scheme for Keir Starmer QC) Regulations 2013." 🤔
