Hey I’m Monique 👋🏾 I’m an indie animation producer and have been working in production management for animated feature films for the last 10 years. With this influx of indie animation, I’ve created a few resources to help those getting started. simplyrobotix.com/shop/digit…

FLY is 78% funded after just 7 hours. To celebrate, I wanted to highlight this incredible piece by an artist I've admired for years. As a fellow Black artist with Ghanaian roots, his work has always inspired me. Thanks for sharing your magic ! @awk3005

So excited that my first time at #dreamcon will include two fire side chats with friends. One about going from a fangirl to working in animation and the other about carving out your own lane in industries that don’t exactly make room for you.

The final scene of JACKIE CHAN ADVENTURES (2000–2005) feels like hanging out with old friends one last time. No giant twist, no grand finale, just Jackie, Jade, Uncle, and the gang together again. Exactly how that show should have ended.

What’s an ending you still think about years later?

I made my first film $20K I saved up, got rejected from 40 festivals and only got in 2 total. My college, nor highschool wanted to show my first movie. I made it with my college friends. I paid $800 to premier it for family got 120 people in a theater. It's on Tubi in 3 countries
Hollywood’s favorite story: the broke outsider who self-financed an $80k movie on credit cards. The receipts: a ~$1M elite education, $330k in grants on her prior film, and a father - a Chinese real-estate and equity investor - credited as an executive producer. I call it “poorface.” New piece: open.substack.com/pub/hollyw…

Matthew Lillard criticized the industry for prioritizing celebrities over voice actors in animation: “The ability to carry a film, as the lead of a film with only a voice, is a power very few people have. The idea that they keep hiring crappy celebrities to carry huge films is killing us.”

AI doesn't stand a chance. Just look at how packed theaters are for Digital Circus, look at the numbers indie animations are pulling online. The big corporations aren't moving the same numbers anymore and they're desperate. Don't let recent events discourage you, there's a golden age of indie animation happening right now.

Let me trace the timeline here because nobody's connecting it. Step 1: Scrape the entire internet. Every book, every article, every conversation, every piece of art, every forum post. Do it without asking. Do it without paying. Step 2: Train a model on all of it. Call it "artificial intelligence." Step 3: Go to BlackRock's Infrastructure Summit and announce: "We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter." Step 3 is where you sell people's own knowledge back to them. On a meter. They took the collective output of human thought, compressed it into a model, and now they want to charge you by the token to access a version of what you and everyone you know already created. One Reddit user put it perfectly: "They stole all this data from us, the people, our life's work, creativity, art, by devouring the internet and blowing through all copyright laws. Now they want to sell it back to us in the form of a utility." Imagine if someone photocopied every book in the public library, burned the library down, and then opened a subscription service for the copies. That's the metered intelligence business model. And they're pitching it to infrastructure investors as though they invented water.
SAM ALTMAN: “WE SEE A FUTURE WHERE INTELLIGENCE IS A UTILITY, LIKE ELECTRICITY OR WATER, AND PEOPLE BUY IT FROM US ON A METER.”

This is the entire point of them trying to defund USPS. They will make you all reliant on capitalism instead of a government funded mailing system so that they can choose how to punish you when you don't meet their demands.
Jeff Bezos: "If we ran Amazon the way New York City runs their school system, packages would take 6 weeks to arrive, we would charge you a $100 delivery fee and when the package did finally arrive, it would have the wrong item in it."
