On my council estate, @dominos isn’t just takeaway — it’s one of the most accessible “treats”. But when the least healthy options are the best value, that has its consequences. At the Domino’s AGM tomorrow, I’ll be asking why? #FoodIsCare 🍕🥤

‘It feels like an attack on the poor’ Dominic Watters is a single dad on Universal Credit. If the government decides not to increase benefits in line with inflation, he’d receive £600 less a year (acc to @resfoundation ). He tells @BBCNewsnight he doesn’t know how he’d manage

A sustainable food system? That depends where you stand. In my estate, you can get blueberry vapes — but not blueberries. I’m building something different with @FoodisCare. Support or share 👇 gofund.me/50a092c10

“Tinderbox UK may be one shock away from food riots. Weakened food security could tip into unrest.” It’s time for the government to improve domestic food security. And that is achieved by supporting British farmers rather than financially punishing them. theguardian.com/food/2026/fe…

‘Tinderbox’ UK may be one shock away from food riots, experts say tinyurl.com/23do6j5d [Guardian] I don't see punch-ups in the street. Yet..

One shock could spark social unrest and even food riots in the UK, according to dozens of the country’s top food experts, reports The @guardian. Describing the UK #FoodSystem as a 'Tinderbox'. The group identified a series of issues creating vulnerability, including the climate crisis, low incomes, poor farming policy and fragile just-in-time supply chains. theguardian.com/food/2026/fe… The full analysis is published in the @MDPIOpenAccess journal, Sustainability, and was produced by consulting more than 30 food system experts from academia, government and industry. It highlights that our broken food system needs to be transformed - changing the way our food is produced and consumed - to future-proof food for all of us. By using our precious resources more intelligently we can create a world with higher standards of living — tackling climate change, protecting nature, and reducing inequality. #CircularLiving #FutureProofFood #SupplyChains #FoodSystems

Why is this story about how the UK is one shock away from food riots relegated to The Guardian's food section, alongside articles about how to make the best cookie dough? No wonder people still don't get it. theguardian.com/food/2026/fe…

Best tweet I’ve seen in a long time 😁
Food is Care didn’t start in a ngo or a policy office. It started on a council estate. In a community where you can get blueberry vapes, but no blueberries. That’s not a coincidence. That’s a food system that perpetuates inequality. #FoodisCare

A “sustainable” food system? Depends where you stand. This Saturday at EA Sustain 2026 in Colchester — from countryside abundance to council estate scarcity. Let’s talk. 🍲 #EASustain2026 #FoodSystems easustain.com/programme2026 @Jonesthejourno

Why do some communities have easy access to organic eggs, while others have easy access to blueberry vapes and cherry vodka? @SingleDadSW reflects on visiting Yolk Farm and local food projects in #Yorkshire as part of a citizen-led inquiry into food (report out now on our website! ➡️ foodfoundation.org.uk/news/w…) Yorkshire stands out - there's real connection, passion and concern for communities, health and agriculture in the region. Can we learn from these fantastic examples? @AnnaLongthorp highlights the potential to source food locally, invest in local projects and boost the economy. #foodsystems #healthyfood #yorkshire @DefraGovUK @angelaeagle @local_food @FixOurFoodteam @RishiSunak @tomgordonLD @JulianSmithUK @kevinhollinrake @RachaelMaskell @lukejcr @DavidDavisMP

That’s me talking about why it is important marginalised council estate communities are heard in @DefraGovUK #NFS 🍲 🌆 🔊 Shouts to everyone making it possible
Yorkshire leading the way on food 💡 Today, a new film and report from the second ‘What Works Here Inquiry’ in 📍York and North Yorkshire is out, coordinated by @local_food and @FixOurFoodteam. Citizens heard from leaders across the food system, including Mayor David Skaith and found: ⚡ Strong devolved and joined-up leadership on food is having a real and positive impact on people living and working in Yorkshire 🌱 Local farm businesses are struggling to compete in a system dominated by multinational corporations – but local procurement could be a way forward 🎒 Great work is already happening in the region, including the auto-enrolment of children for #freeschoolmeals, which citizens think could be rolled out elsewhere These findings will help inform the new Food Strategy, with citizens meeting with @DefraGovUK Secretary @angelaeagle next month ➡️ foodfoundation.org.uk/news/w… #foodsystems #healthyfood #yorkshire @RishiSunak @tomgordonLD @JulianSmithUK @kevinhollinrake @RachaelMaskell @lukejcr @DavidDavisMP

Important contribution from @SingleDadSW - we risk a return to the food riots of the 18th Century Farmers need to be leaning into this messaging - national interest over self interest Give it a read 👇 theguardian.com/food/2026/fe…
