💦 ⚙️ Every nozzle on a Smart Apply system is controlled with precision, and these solenoids play a major role in making that happen. While the nozzle is the part that actually sprays the chemical, the solenoid acts as the electronic valve that controls exactly when each nozzle turns on and off.
Using LiDAR laser technology, Smart Apply scans 270 degrees around the sprayer while collecting 24,000 data points per second to create a digital blueprint of the canopy. That information is then processed in real time, and signals are sent through the control box to each individual nozzle, telling each solenoid when to fire so product is only applied where it’s needed.
⚡ These solenoids can pulse up to 10 times per second, allowing the system to rapidly adjust application rates as the sprayer moves through varying canopy density in orchards and vineyards.
🌿 The result is a smarter spraying operation with less waste, reduced overspray, and major savings on input costs, all while maintaining effective crop protection.

🌱🔬 Since 2013, the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture has worked alongside Smart Apply to study and evaluate precision spraying technology in real-world nursery and orchard conditions. Even in dense canopies and challenging production environments, their research continues to show significant reductions in pesticide use while maintaining effective crop protection in apple and nursery crops.
