Impressive is an understatement when describing the annual migration of the monarch butterfly. They fly 4,000 miles round trip from the US and Canada, where they breed, then all the way down to central Mexico where they hibernate and return up north in the spring.

When you visit our Garden with Wings Butterfly Exhibit you will see plants that benefit every stage of a butterfly. Adult butterflies need plants that provide nectar. We also provide host plants for a wide variety of caterpillars.

Did you know that the first meal for most newly emerged caterpillars is the eggshell from which it hatched? After it feasts on the eggshell, it moves onto the leaves of its host plant in preparation for the pupa stage!
