The Shroud of Turin is a very old piece of cloth.
Many Christians believe it is the same cloth in which Jesus Christ was wrapped after he was crucified on the cross.
Recently, scientists at the University of Padova in Italy did a DNA test on tiny samples taken from this cloth back in 1978.
Their result: About 40% of the human DNA found in it is linked to Indian ancestry (Indian lineage). The scientists say this DNA could have come from:
Ancient cotton yarn made during the Indus Valley civilization (very old Indian times), or
Later on, through trade, travellers and people who touched the cloth over hundreds of years.
The cloth also has DNA from many different people, animals and even fish — because for almost 2,000 years so many people have handled it that it’s now very hard to know what was “original”.In short:
The cloth has travelled through many hands around the world, and it also carries an Indian connection.
NDTV shared this news on X, and people are joking about it like “Wow, Jesus had Indian roots too!” That’s the whole story in simple English!
