I do the stupid things so you don't have to, like point a telescope at the sun! Do not do this at home!

Getting a closer look at an active region that had been kicking multiple solar flares.

I keep neglecting X, but here is a recap of some memorable solar moments from this year to date. The year isn't out just yet so hopefully there will be more to come!

Hovering high above the sun's chromosphere, a detached solar prominence is held in place by magnetic forces invisible to the eye.

The other day I was able to catch an M Class solar flare from an active region pointed directly at Earth. A noticeable shockwave can be observed followed by a CME, which will hit us sometime Thursday night into Friday. Don't expect magical lights however as a near full moon is going to drown out any faint glow.

Weather is slowly starting to get better for doing solar imaging finally. Hoping that this year is going to produce some cracking images and time lapses.

It's May 4th, the force is strong with this one. Hopefully my powers aren't weak!

Easter sunday was full of action on the Sun. This time lapse was made using 3 scopes, all watching different parts of the sun.

Not the best of sessions, weather has been on and off these past few weeks. One moment, it's sunshine and blue skies, the next is grey and cloudy. Looks like the weekend might be a better run.

A small C Class flare popped up on the sun this morning. This time lapse is over the span of 90 minutes with each capture taken 10 seconds apart.

Still dialing in the remote setup, getting tracking and other things figured out but we are making progress. On March 21st, a large solar prominence, several times the size of earth, reached across the limb of the Sun. Hydrogen in plasma form, spewed forth and crashed back down, tracing magnetic lines generated by the suns dynamic magnetic field. This time lapse is over the course of 3 hours and has been colorized for dramatic effect

Winter is officially over and today marked the Spring Equinox, what better way to celebrate the start of the season than a 45min time lapse of a large solar prominence that sat on the limb of the sun, and a mix of other features.

While im normally better known for my images of the Sun, last nights Lunar Eclipse was right on my door step and didnt have to go anywhere, so i threw out the 150mm scope and my trusty Sony A7C and snapped away while freezing my butt off!

Getting back into the swing of things. Solar maximum is peaking and we have lots of cool things to watch on the sun. Looking forward to what 2025 has to offer.

2024 saw quite a few @SpaceX Falcon 9 Launches from Vandenburg Air Force Base in California. On May 9th, I followed Starlink Group 8-2 as it streaked across the night skies. This hand tracked, 120 fps video was stabilized and rotated so you can see how the plume forms and disappears during MECO. This was filmed in Santa Clarita, Ca.
