The results are in and ENGAGE — our professional development course focused on #SciComm was a hit! It was an experiment. We tried something very different - a focus on communication strategies, not just tactics
ALT Alt text: infographic summarizing survey results of the 2 day intensive and ENGAGE course Survey Summary 16 enrolled participants; by the numbers 53.3% of respondents said the course improved their scicomm knowledge by a lot; 46.6% said the course improved their knowledge at least a little bit; things they loved Liz!, format, lecture & approach; module timing and schedule; breakout discussions; Mean 8.76 and mode 9 course ranking 8 out of 10 and quote by an engage participant saying ‘I was inspired to stop putting off thinking about how to build a scicomm portfolio and actually do it!’
The data tells part of the story. For a first-hand perspective, check out this post from the brilliant Abbey Morris! solvingfor.org/news-posts-da…

Last but not least, we're thrilled to have @AGoldrath among our new board members. She had an "ah ha!" moment about scientific culture change that resonates with so many PI's—check it out: solvingfor.org/news-posts-da…
ALT Social card featuring a quote and picture of Ananda W. Goldrath, PhD
Executive Vice President Allen Institute for Immunology. Ananda is a white woman, with her brown hair swept back in a bun, and the picture is a powerful portrait. Her quote: We each have agency, we all have voices and we need to be using them. Having a community like SolvingFor that supports you and that enables this culture change work, because we all have more than full-time jobs, it's kind of a revolutionary idea.
ALT Social card featuring a quote and picture of José Ordovás-Montañés, PhD, Assistant Professor, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, Co-Director, Cell Discovery Network, Boston Children’s Hospital. José is a white man (from Spain!), with short brown hair, and he's sporting a big smile. His quote: I'm very excited about having a group of people that isn't retired from the game, wondering what they should have done differently. It’s people that are very much in the game right now, who are selflessly taking valuable time and energy to make things better.
Our team is growing! This week we're proud to introduce the newest members of our board. First up: @SaraSuliman13! Read more about what she's excited to tackle with us, and why she's committed to culture change: solvingfor.org/news-posts-da…
ALT Social card featuring a picture of Sara Suliman, PhD, MPH - Assistant Professor, Department of Experimental Medicine, University of California, San Francisco. Sara is a black woman with short, curly hair, and she's rocking an excellent smize (smiling with her eyes) in this photo. Her quote: I feel very strongly about raising awareness about unconscious biases that stifle people's path, which SolvingFor is pursuing through NEST. There's definitely a national crackdown on talking about systemic barriers like race. Some of my colleagues who are involved in DEI work are specifically being targeted, and I think people are underestimating how much pushback there is.
‼️🚨Kick off your weekend with an intro to a new, journal-free system for publishing—developed by and for scientists—that we’re piloting with our friends in immunology. Feeling intrigued? fed-up? skeptical? rebellious? Come watch the pitch! 😎 zoom.us/meeting/register/tJI…
