At #Kolkata, it was a brush with history, visiting Asia’s oldest academic science research and teaching institute, “Indian Association for Cultivation of Science” #IACS, groomed by stalwart faculty like Sir CV Raman, Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee and Dr Saha , with patronage from Dr BC Roy. Currently celebrating 150 years of its existence, the institute has been part of India’s growth journey across three centuries and fetched India’s first Nobel Prize in Science for ‘Raman Effect’.

It was a rejuvenating experience interacting with the bright and excited undergraduate students at the Department of Chemistry, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Kolkata. It is reassuring to see that a few academic institutions in Kolkata are still taking science teaching (in particular, Chemistry) seriously and doing a very good job there.
