Our new paper examining the content of existing measures of social connection for care home residents, led by Madalena Liougas. We itemised each item in 31 measures, providing a detailed inventory of the content of these to clarify what aspect of social connection they measure.

Our main qualitative study has just been published - we identified barriers and facilitators to social connection for LTC residents which can be addressed in care policies, staff selection and training. bmcgeriatr.biomedcentral.com…

These factors can be addressed in future policies and interventions to build and maintain social connection in LTC homes. Our SONNET scale, which is in final development will help these to be measured! Great work from Hannah Chapman @UCLPsychiatry @DeNPRU_QM @KITE_UHN

We used COSMIN review methods to appraise them and found that no current measures can be recommended for use based on existing evidence. A reliable and valid measure of social connection is needed - watch this space for more @SonnetStudy work!

We have had great help from @enrich_research and the linked care homes to help us to hear the experience of care residents, families and staff for SONNET - thank you all!
I may be creating a 🔁 matrix here but do follow the thread to learn about the @SonnetStudy and the @enrich_research teams that helped to spread the word to research-ready care homes like Galanos House so that residents and their families could take part!

And the SONNET Study is the solution to better research!! Analysis of current social connection measures show limitations so developing a new one - prioritises social engagement & connectedness & the resident view - and testing it in care homes in UK & Canada.
