Whenever I feel hopeless about the state of things, I try to recall that I once believed I wouldn’t live to see Roe v. Wade overturned. You will live to see miracles beyond your comprehension.

"With the purchase of an anime figurine the social controls which might once have restrained this manic reaction are now exposed to it and magnify the output. Although the man on the dating app believes he has the situation in hand, he is in fact sitting on the bomb of inceldom."

I’m lucky to not require any test because I know for a fact my direct ancestor rode under the command of Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest.
Hail Jefferson Davis.

“Jon was Jon from conception on” is beautiful.
George Will's son Jon has Down syndrome. In 2013, he wrote this celebrating Jon's 40th birthday.

Your average juror can’t follow a closing argument today. You’re lucky if everyone on the jury even speaks English.
“The students who cannot read a 20-page article today are the voters who will not be able to read a bill, or the jurors who cannot follow a closing argument, tomorrow.”

I am haunted by the Japanese-American girl who I let get away. I tell myself it wasn’t meant to be, that it would have worked out if it was, but the regret remains.
I'm Gen X, and I was told this. In fact, my silent gen dad told me not to marry until I was 35. It's why I've been writing for 22 years to help younger men. Out of a life rife with misadventures, my biggest 100% regret is not marrying the Japanese-American model I dated at 21.

When it’s meant to happen, it just happens. My parents met on an airplane, by pure chance. My mom was the one to call first to make sure he knew she was interested.

"Catgirl" is something beautiful. An excellent construction. Beyond human. Something to compare ourselves against and be found wanting. Like Tolkien's elves. "Puppygirl" is the most disgusting combination of words in the English language

I think if you told a medieval bishop that hand holding is a near occasion of sin for you, he would have you beaten or imprisoned as a danger to the community.

This is true about more than just finance. There’s an under-discussed cruelty to forcing regular people into complex schemes as a prerequisite for meaningful participation in society and the economy. Our egalitarianism, ironically, punishes those without the skills to understand

You shouldn't need a phd in finance to have a good life. It's an insane standard that not only should you have to work but also invest all your extra income in the stock market to have a good life. He's an out of touch idiot.

I enjoy baking bread but am continuously frustrated that all the really good recipes include “Now wait 12 hours” as a step.

Deacon says a single hour of confession on Saturday afternoon is “ample opportunity.” Completely unserious church.

“Viewpoint diversity” is a false goal, born from good-natured intellectual uncertainty tainted by cowardice in the face of opposition. Truth does not defend itself. We must fight for it. Choosing not to enforce our truth does not stop our enemies from enforcing their falsity.
In general, the problem with all the recent talk of “viewpoint diversity” as the cure for the monoculture of the university is this: (1) everyone thinks that there must be some limits of professional competence to viewpoint diversity (no flat-earth types in the geography department please); (2) academic progressives overwhelmingly hold that views like “men cannot get pregnant” are as inadmissible as believing in a flat earth. Hence they are ultimately unable to reform themselves, at least at the department level. There must be thorough reconstruction from above or from outside.

Their purpose has been reduced to selling insurance.
Genuinely don’t understand the purpose of the Knights of Columbus at this point. They don’t have anything that makes them different from any Parish Men’s group. It is sad and ineffectual.

I grew up learning that the Church likes to impose pointless and counterproductive bureaucratic hurdles between Her laity and the reception of the sacraments.
