I'm counting down the days until we see you all again at @armchair_astro Daniel Tani event ‘Summer Space Social’ Saturday 11th July 2026 🚀
One of the most rewarding parts of organising astronaut events is reading the messages people send afterwards. People often arrive excited to meet an astronaut. But what many remember most is the atmosphere, the conversations and the people they meet throughout the day. One attendee recently wrote: "I was put at ease and included from the first moment by friendly and amiable people from organisers to attendees." That comment means the world to us. Creating a welcoming and inclusive environment has been one of the goals behind these events from the very beginning. Space is for everyone. Whether you've followed human spaceflight for decades or you're attending your very first astronaut event, we hope you'll feel right at home. 🚀 Summer Space Social 2026 with NASA Astronaut Daniel Tani 🎟 Tickets & information: thearmchairastronaut.co.uk/d…

Early bird tickets are still available until 1st June. Get yours now @armchair_astro 🚀
One thing we’ve come to appreciate over the last few years is just how rare meaningful astronaut events in the UK are becoming. Not large commercial theatre appearances, but genuine community events where people can actually spend meaningful time hearing directly from someone who has lived and worked in space. That’s what our Space Social events are about. A chance to step away from screens and documentaries for a day and experience these stories in person alongside fellow space enthusiasts, families, students and curious minds. NASA astronaut Daniel Tani will be joining us live to share his experiences from the Space Shuttle and International Space Station, including over 131 days spent living and working in orbit. Early Bird ticket prices end on 1st June, after which standard pricing will apply. 🚀 Summer Space Social 2026 🎟 Tickets & information: thearmchairastronaut.co.uk/d…

The view from inside Integrity as recovery forces pop open the hatch…watching the helicopter pass over their shoulders and hearing all the joy, it was as good as it gets.

On the 65th anniversary of the first American in space. LOOK CLOSELY - Alan Shepard is strapped into 'Freedom 7' atop his Redstone rocket, waiting to make history. His heart rate quickened as the hatch was closed and bolted shut. (From the book, Gemini & Mercury Remastered)

Meet Astronaut Dan Tani live in Cranfield, UK on 11th July 2026. Tickets available: thearmchairastronaut.co.uk/d…
We love this picture of Astronaut Daniel Tani, photographed in December 2001 on Space Shuttle mission STS-108. During a 4 hour EVA, Dan installed thermal blankets on mechanisms that rotate the International Space Station's (ISS) main solar arrays. But don't just take our word for it. Come and meet Dan and hear from him yourself live in Cranfield, UK on 11th July 2026. Tickets now available: thearmchairastronaut.co.uk/d… @armchair_astro

In 2013, my great friend & director Mark Craig asked Gene Cernan - the last human to walk on the lunar surface - what words he had for the next astronauts to go to the Moon. And here they are, in tribute to @NASA's Artemis II crew & those that will follow. Please watch with volume up. Credit: Mark Stewart Productions/Haviland Digital/Stopwatch Productions

Fist bump, Rise! Very emotional moment zipping up Rise, knowing we are bringing 5,647,889 names with us on this journey around the Moon. For all!   People from around the world submitted their names through the Send Your Name with Artemis campaign. These names were downloaded onto an SD card that is safely stored inside "Rise," the zero gravity indicator designed by 2nd grader Lucas Ye from California. Thanks for coming along, everyone!

Remembering Jim Lovell, who would have turned 98 today. x.com/AndySaunders_1/status/…

A visual tribute to Jim Lovell, who passed away Thursday. Inducted into NASA as part of the "New Nine" in Sept 1962, of which there are sadly no more. He flew Gemini VII and XII, Apollo 8, and as seen here as Commander of the ill-fated Apollo 13. 1/6

We're thinking of astronaut Jim Lovell today as we remember him on his birthday. As one of the first three astronauts to travel into deep space on Apollo 8, we reflect on his words: "I put my thumb up to the window and completely hid the Earth. … everything I ever knew was behind my thumb."
