Missing 1-Year-Old Alabama Toddler Suspected Missing for Months Before Fatal Crash Killed Father and Sister
State investigators are searching for a missing one-year-old boy after a fatal car crash earlier this month that killed his father and sister. Authorities now suspect the child may have been missing for months before the accident.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) and State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) have joined the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office in the search for Kahleb Rowan Collins. The toddler’s disappearance came to light after his father, Steven Collins, and two-year-old sister, Ryleigh, were killed in a car crash on December 8. Kahleb’s mother, Wendy Bailey, remains in critical condition at UAB Hospital.
Officials believe Kahleb was not in the truck at the time of the crash. The accident site on Fayette County Road 73, less than a mile from the family’s home, was thoroughly searched, but no sign of the toddler was found. According to law enforcement, it is now believed Kahleb may have been missing for up to two months prior to the wreck.
The day after the crash, authorities were notified that the couple had another child, and his whereabouts were unknown. Neighbors told WBMA they were aware the couple had a son but had not seen him in months. When asked about Kahleb’s absence, Steven Collins reportedly said the child was staying with relatives due to illness. In a Facebook post on November 6, Collins wrote, “Our son is not doing well. He is not growing and has major back issues. His organs are growing but not in his body. He has to have surgery at some point. Keep him in your prayers.”
Family members also reported hearing that Kahleb was staying with a family friend at one point.
