Coaches that complain about having a leadership issue in their program:
Have you ever sat down with your players individually and asked them what makes a leader? 🧐
You may be surprised by their honest answer:
“I actually don’t know” 😶
Most of the time, the lack of leadership isn’t because your players don’t care.
It’s because nobody has ever intentionally taught them what leadership looks like, sounds like, and requires.
We spend hours teaching technique, scheme, and fundamentals.
How much time do we spend teaching leadership?
Leadership isn’t caught by accident.
It must be modeled, taught, practiced, and reinforced.
