This is Joyce, one of our guides at the distillery. If you have every visited you may very well have met her. We asked her a few questions and she put it so eloquently we thought we'd let you just read it in her own words!
"I’m Scottish born, with itchy feet at 17, I headed off on a 25 year adventure, joining the military, meeting my husband, travelling and living abroad with our jobs, we finally settled in the west coast of Scotland, because I married a Tiree boy, and we both are drawn to the sea. It was time to slow down, So Campbeltown it is.
I found a seasonal job at Springbank Distillery in 2022 and by hook or by crook I’m still here. I’m a tour guide, some call us story tellers or historians, I think a little of each, I’ve worked in most departments at Springbank, on the distillery side, to see how they operate and process, it’s a great way of putting all the Springbank cogs together when you are learning. It's a fantastic role especially in the summer, when it’s super busy, I love working with people from all walks of life.
If you are here visiting Springbank, visit the distillery early before opening and listen for the malt men whistling. It echos through the car park. You need to be an early riser though !
When I’m not working, I’m busy working for a community charity who are in town, and when things are quiet and I get down time I love to spend it with my husband Innes and 3 dogs Frankie, Archie and Angus, we love heading north in our camper when we can."
Thanks for sharing Joyce.
