Police are not social workers. They don't prevent crime. But recently, by-law officers have been ticketing homeless Torontonians $260 for "loitering in a park without a purpose." This city needs to have a frank conversation about the role and responsibilities of police.
Toronto mayor unveils plan to hire hundreds of police officers, more 911 operators. toronto.citynews.ca/2025/08/…

I hope @CamGuthrie and others who push to criminalize homelessness in Guelph look outside during storms like this and imagine what it would be like to live in a tent. Those are the people you’re forcing into dangerous areas away from support services and life saving resources.

Forgive my bluntness, but I spent the day at encampments trying to help good people survive in impossible locations. I’m wet and tired and angry.

Hey folks! Does anyone have leads on somewhere that designs leg prosthetics in Guelph or nearby? We have a community member who is an amputee and *urgently* needs a new prosthetic limb, and I am not sure exactly where to start to help getting her one. Thanks!

Unhoused or low-income folks and people who use substances are always going to exist, and they are always going to do it downtown no matter where you build shelter. So give them somewhere safe to gather and share community. Build it anywhere else and it will just be ineffective
I support a daytime shelter space or hub. 100%. However, I believe our downtown cores/main streets should be purposeful places for thriving commerce, entrepreneurial small to medium sized businesses that often risk it all to provide employment with tourism & event opportunities.

Much as he might like to, the mayor cannot ever make it illegal to exist as a poor person in his line of sight.

Our downtown is for people who live in Guelph, period. Our low income healthcare, religious institutions, education and social services plus their patrons have every right to be there too. Downtown is for community, not just capitalism. The core is not just for the wealthy.

If this year has taught me anything so far it’s that you’re never too old to show up at your parents’ house late at night and sit in their kitchen crying while your mom makes you a grilled cheese sandwich.

Kate was an absolute wonder. It's nothing short of horrifying that we lost this amazing human, who didn't just talk about love, she LIVED love. She WAS love. Her work will continue through her community care initiative Your Downtown Guelph Friends. Donate: gofund.me/f95b3652

This is by far the hardest thing I’ve ever had to post, and the reason I have been away from social media recently. Thanks to the other admins at YDGF who helped craft this announcement, and to Kate’s family for trusting us with writing it. facebook.com/share/19xQwGzDW…

Youre welcome to still message me, I just probably won’t be responding to people for a bit. I’ll catch up when I can.

Reminder that all fragrances and essential oils are not accessible and that a good chunk of the population has adverse medical reactions to them. Choose scent free products for day to day and working so that you aren’t a barrier to those around you.
16 Dec 2024
i assume people know this, but fragrances differ in their perfume oil concentrations, which affects the intensity, longevity, and projection of their scent. an atomizer that douses you in an EdC concentration of Iso E Super is going to be very different from an EdP of oud.
