The Church has never simply demanded 'accept the Council' but (in sum) accepting validity of Vatican II and that its teaching does not contradict previous doctrine. Even sedevacantism won't resolve the problem if you accept that a valid ecumenical council formally taught heresy.

Here's what Rome offered: clarification regarding doctrinal minimums around Vatican II, distinguishing interpretation and assent required. Don't let the SSPX (or certain bishops) throw out red herrings about the Church requiring absolute unquestioning adherence to Vatican II.
Remember that Rome offered a structured theological dialogue to clarify doctrinal questions linked to Vatican II and to identify the minimum conditions for full ecclesial communion and a canonical status for the SSPX, in exchange for the SSPX postponing the Consecrations. They rejected the offer. A really regrettable decision, as this would have helped the whole Church move on from Vatican II. Alas here we are.

Ironically, the SSPX position on Vatican II would open a floodgate to theological revisionism. If an ecumenical council, when not making a definition, can teach formal error, then Florence, Trent's doctrinal prefaces, Unigenitus, etc., could all potentially teach formal error.

*Or the Church require adhesion to formal doctrinal error as a condition of communion (as with Unigenitus) and have required of all the faithful formal adhesion to doctrinal error. This is theologically unacceptable, by any classical Catholic theological standard.

The Church has in fact REPEATEDLY outlined what the Society must accept in flexible doctrinal protocols. They are required to accept essentially that VII is a legitimate council and that it did not teach error in neuralgic points. The SSPX rejected dialogue on these terms.
The Holy See must give at least one concrete example of dogmatic teaching in the Council documents which the SSPX denies. If the Holy See can’t do that, it’s like being arrested for breaking the law without being told what law one has broken.

Let's say you think Vatican II is dangerously ambiguous and that, without clarification, it leads souls astray. The Church offers to clarify the teaching publicly, to outline what is necessary to affirm in Vatican II. Instead, you reject any such terms. Are you in bad faith?

For those intentionally dull, the Church is offering to clarify necessary points. But the SSPX has foolishly rejected even such terms, preferring instead to demand the Church unilaterally accept its own positions and repudiate Vatican II. He's right: it's their choice, not his.
Pope Leo XIV on the upcoming SSPX Episcopal Consecrations: “I am considering making another appeal saying don't do this, let's try to live the communion of the Church. But it's their choice. One must realize what it means for them and for the Church. Certainly, the division among Christians is a painful point. However, they refuse to accept some fundamental elements of the Church, starting with several points from the Second Vatican Council. If they make that decision, I'm sorry but we have to move on.”

If Vatican II is an ecumenical council - as it is - it is not possible to reject it as having no force, much less to accuse it of having taught error. Accepting this minimum does not require holding everything the Council taught or decreed was infallible or clear or perfect.

The doctrinal protocol offered in the previous CDF under Benedict or recently is open to amendment by the Society, but the SSPX has refused to offer any such dialogue regarding how they might affirm doctrinal continuity. The SSPX doesn't want clarification but repudiation.

The Last Gospel doesn't emphasize the Mass as sacrifice. It was a private thanksgiving (oft recited processing back to the sacristy, as in Sarum), but partially apotropaic. All medieval rites lacked the Last Gospel as it is now. The Dominican Rite only added it in the 1600s.
Most Catholics are unaware that for centuries before the Novus Ordo was instituted, Mass ended with a reading of the Prologue of Saint John. The reason for this particular passage from the Gospels is its cosmic significance, which was deemed extremely suitable for the nature of the Mass until the 1960 when the priority became to emphasise the Mass as a meeting of the Christian community rather than the sacrifice of Christ on the altar.

In point of fact, I recite the Last Gospel usually as thanksgiving after Mass, when I get back to the sacristy. It's a very lovely text. But I don't see that removing it from the Pauline Missal was about downplaying sacrifice. The text is rather irrelevant to that question.

Let us ask Mary, Queen of Peace, to teach us to renounce hurtful words, hasty judgment, gossip, and slander. May we learn to cherish and nurture love within our families, among friends, in the workplace, on social media, in political debates, and in Christian communities, so that hatred may give way to hope and peace. #ApostolicJourney

Just saw the new Disclosure Day movie. It was very Spielberg in style, but the story was really 'Meh.' They desperately need religious advisors for Catholicism, if it was to play such a prominent role in the movie. Lady says, "I was a novitiate," and other implausible things.

Misattributed verses to Scripture and literally incorrectly cites passages that play a central role in the story. Can it be that hard to pick up a Bible and quote it correctly?

Is it implausible to hold one Christian group is identical with the Church of Jesus Christ, outside of which is no salvation? Objections rest upon the apparent implausibility of denying holiness outside of that communion. Protestants, however, aren't exempt from the problem. 🧵

...the visible Church. Perfect belonging to the Church comes through baptism and communion with its hierarchical ministers. These non-Christians do not belong to the Church, except imperfectly by desire, but have a Spirit-inspired (unsatisfied) desire for the Church, for baptism.

If (by contrast) the 'Church' is co-extensive with all holy people, then holy Jews or Sikhs, etc., are either 'Christians' or are saved without faith. This pressure leads to liberal Protestantism blurring faith's necessity or evangelicalism denying holiness of non-Christians.
