A good read, despite @colin_borland’s erroneous claim about not encountering ‘A-list glitz’ in his office everyday

Cllr Bell's interview about Glasgow's visitor levy - he mentioned other European cities, but: - many of their levies exempt locals, young people and some workers - Glasgow's 5% is higher than most levies (except for ones in Germany and the Netherlands) - VAT is lower in Europe
NEW: Glasgow’s tourist tax has been approved - around £4.83 per night, starting in 2027 But why aren’t locals exempt? We asked GCC treasurer, Ricky Bell, about that Full 6-min interview here ⬇️

I have been trying to unpack where it is I stand with this. Am I disappointed in DF Concerts for promoting Brown’s gig? Fans who buy the tickets? Or the political elites who have turned a blind eye to Brown while claiming Kneecap “crossed a line”? heraldscotland.com/politics/…

Grateful for the opportunity to represent the small business voice at this important discussion this morning. A focus on growth - and no additional burdens - is key for the upcoming Programme for Government to boost small business confidence during these very uncertain times.
Very grateful to business and trade union colleagues who spent the morning at Bute House discussing the economic implications of tariffs and wider challenges. Hugely constructive conversation.
