A second teenager has been arrested and charged in connection with two March 2026 shootings targeting synagogues in Toronto and Vaughan.
Earlier this month, police arrested a 17-year-old male in relation to the attacks, charging him with a total of nine offences, but indicated they did not believe he acted alone. These suspicions were confirmed as a second 17-year-old male was taken into custody earlier this week in Waterloo, police announced today.
This second suspect is facing six charges, including two counts of reckless discharge of a firearm. Police say their investigation into the shootings remains ongoing.
We appreciate the efforts of law enforcement to identify and apprehend those responsible for these heinous acts targeting Canada’s Jewish community. Those who seek to intimidate, threaten, or harm others must be held accountable, and there must be meaningful consequences that reflect the severity of these crimes. Anything less risks emboldening those who believe they can target Jewish institutions without facing serious repercussions. Canadians deserve to know that acts of hate and violence will be treated with the seriousness they warrant.
The Jewish community will not accept such acts of violence and intimidation, and neither should Canadians as a whole.
