It was a pleasure to recognize & celebrate Broadway Tire, an exceptional family business that has been operating for many decades on Route 28 on the Methuen-Lawrence line. They have provided services not only to residents in the Merrimack Valley but to visitors from all over.

This #VeteransDay, our community as always showed up for our Veterans!! Thank you to all who came out to show support for those who have served. Most importantly, thank you to my fellow Veterans – not only for your service but for all you do to make our community a better place.

On Veterans Day, we recommit ourselves to addressing the unique challenges of our Veteran community – including Veteran suicide (which continues to rise), homelessness, mental health, & career opportunities in civilian life.

We have won some major legislative gains for our Veterans this session – including sweeping reform of Veteran care & services across MA & at our Soldiers’ Homes, & a major bill creating opportunities for our Vets & military families. This is great progress – & the work continues.

Regarding the families that have been sent to the Days Inn in #Methuen, my only comment at this time is that there is work ongoing to find solutions – that said, it is not humane to house all these families & children at this location. 1/2 wcvb.com/article/immigrant-f…

There are many safety concerns for these families at this site, & the basic support mechanisms they will need are not in place. We must do a lot better, & we need to find solutions quickly. I am very encouraged that DHCD is meeting w/ the Mayor today to discuss the situation. 2/2

We have within our midst only about a third of the Veterans that served in Vietnam – and, as we all know, many still suffer from the effects of Agent Orange & PTSD, both from their service & the way they were treated when they arrived back in the U.S.
