I 100% agree Braves should go after a more impactful arm whose not in his mid 30s
100% agree
The idea with calling the royals is that they are one of the few teams who know it ain’t it this year but could offer the chance to address multiple needs in one move
The news on Spencer Strider is obviously a positive, but add Strider to this growing list of Braves pitchers:
With their injuries, any potential value from
Waldrep
Schwelly
AJSS
Strider
Should not be relied upon
It should only further motivate AA TO LAND A GOOD STARTER
Goal is to aim higher, and the Braves need to be willing to over pay, especially for an SP
But those are some vet names that could improve their production with the Braves, who have a long track record of doing just that
Key in this trade setup is improving multiple areas
With how things look, I really want to aim higher than that on the talent totem pole. If one of those starters are just to help be a bridge to the deadline then sure.
Lane Thomas has produced
131 wRC
.196 ISO
.845 OPS
.288 AVG
.360 OBP
In his career vs LHP
Less power this year, but he also has a 17.5% walk rate vs LHP in 2026
He’s a good hitter vs lefties, and Braves have good track record of helping vet hitters normalize production
I’d put more faith in the Braves setup to get Lugo metrics back on track
-had some of best years of career with Hefner in 2022 and 2023
- has arsenal Braves like and do well with
- Braves have good track record of refining and gaining value from Late 30s SPs
Doesn’t stop pursuit of a true NO. 2 starter, but could address multiple needs at somewhat reasonable cost
Plus the pitching can all be controlled beyond this year
KC needs upper level minors pitching
If Owen Murphy led package could land Wacha/Lugo and Lynch, do it
The Braves should call the KC Royals
Some combo of
Michael Wacha
Seth Lugo
Lane Thomas
Daniel Lynch
Wacha and Lugo are vet, no. 3 level starters with postseason chops
Thomas hits lefties well and can field
Lynch would be great second BP lefty w/ multi year control

The Phillies are eyewitnesses to perhaps the best 1-2 punch in the game.
Milwaukee Brewers starters Jacob Misiorowski and Kyle Harrison vs. Phillies this weekend:
15 innings
4 hits
0 runs
0 walks
18 strikeouts.
Just a reminder the ultimate test for Austin Riley is coming up….
The annual “Super Austin” stretch of the season
From June 15th -July 31st by year for Austin Riley
2021: .879 OPS
2022: 1.077 OPS
2023: .952 OPS
2024: .948 OPS
2025: .674 OPS
Run Differential for 3 best NL teams across the first 5 innings of every game combined since 5/1
LAD 49
MIL 41
ATL 12
Using same criteria, teams wRC since 5/1
LAD 127
MIL 114
ATL 104
So if Atlanta has got the worst Sp and offense vs SPs, hard to find success
The Simple truth is the Braves have a championship worthy bullpen and offense (when Ronald and Baldwin are healthy)
But the impact of those team aspects is limited without the lead
Coming from behind consistently is harder to do in playoffs, so early offense is critical

If you want Elder to start a playoff game, I am ok because I think he can keep you in the game and you don’t have much choice at present
But if Elder is not missing bats, he is likely putting up 4th to 5th starter production
Been the case his whole career
No, it has been the past month
Of 130 Pitchers with 20 or more IPs since 5/15, Elder is 121st with a 5.4 K/9 rate
His metrics have all soared past 4
Not being able to miss bats with a sub 50% GB rate will likely not get the job vs Game 2 playoff opponents

The Brewers are flipping Shane Drohan and Jacob Misiorowski in the rotation for next week, bumping Miz back a day. No concern, Matt Arnold said. Misiorowski’s schedule was pre-planned and he will likely be the probable starter Friday in Atlanta.
10 current Braves have made 10 starts for ATL since 2024
7 of 10 were, now, or will likely be facing 60 day IL stints since start of 2025 (Lopez, Holmes, Wentz, Schwelly, Waldrep, AJSS, Strider)
