As many schools continue to deal with arson, an often overlooked issue is the relationship between age and criminal behaviour. Criminality peaks in adolescence. Most adolescent-specific offenders rarely become criminals in adulthood. In contrast, life-course persistent offenders usually have a history of offending prior to adolescence, and carry the behaviour to adulthood. Being able to make this distinction is important for both the schools and the justice system. For schools, knowing that adolescence comes with a propensity for criminal behaviour, cues you to prepare, maintain vigilance, and address issues before they trigger actual crime. It also helps to weed out students with patterns of life-course persistent offending, since these usually have a lot of influence (including manipulation) on the adolescent-specific offenders.

A key Kenya Kwanza commitment was to end regressive taxation by rationalising all business licenses and capping total licenses at 1.5% of turnover. How far are we with this @DavidNdii ?
Now what is this ? What kind of taxation system is this?

The easiest way to know if living in such a house is poverty, is to do SHA means testing and see if you get a low premium. SHA means testing is the International Wealth Index in other words.
They Call it Culture but in reality it's poverty 😔.

The reason we see a lot of cross-county migration of students every start and end of the term is because some regions don't have enough schools. The whole of North Eastern has 187 public high schools and the whole of coast has 447. Compare: Kitui alone has 483 high schools.
The underinvestment in public secondary schools in Kenya is so apparent that we move from 23,831 public primary schools to only 9,485 public secondary schools. Unlike primary, private highschools are non-existent, meaning almost everyone bar a few, attend public high schools.

For every KSh 100 that SHA collected in premiums, it paid out KSh 158 in claims and benefits, signalling the unsustainability of the fund. In contrast, NHIF managed to keep a loss ratio below 100% for its entire duration except in 2018/19 when the loss ratio shot to 121%.

AI predicted wealth distribution in Kenya. Wealth in Kenya follows the usual pattern, concentrated around Nairobi, Rift, Western, Nyanza and Central. Panel A is the fragmented asset wealth index based on KDHS clusters, while Panel B is the wealth index based on the AI model.
Measuring poverty used to mean flying data collectors to remote villages every decade. A satellite AI model just mapped every 6-km area of Africa for 36 GPU-hours total, which is roughly the cost of a tank of gas. Cool paper by @MarshallBBurke and colleagues!

Most Kenyan protests usually occur in the third quarter between July and September, with a significant buildup of momentum between April and June. As of May 2026, the momentum for the next protests is being set, as we've already seen with fuel-related demos.
