We don’t worship the sun, we worship with the sun. The entire created universe is for the glory of God. It is precisely because of this truth that idolatrous religions arise.
“Praise ye him, O sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars and light.” Psalm 148:3
🛑 Ad Orientem is sun worship
📖 “Son of man,” He said to me, “do you see this? Yet you will see even greater abominations than these.” So He brought me to the inner court of the house of the LORD, and there at the entrance to the temple of the LORD, between the portico and the altar, were about twenty-five men with their backs to the temple of the LORD and their faces toward the east; and they were bowing to the east in worship of the sun. Ezekiel 8:15-16
⚠️ Many Catholic churches are built facing East (ad orientem), so the congregation faces the rising sun as a symbol of Christ’s Second Coming.🤨 This architecture is a profound expression of eschatology (the theology of the end times). The physical orientation of the building matches the spiritual posture of the congregation.
🤨 The Rising Sun: The sun rising in the east represents the resurrection and the promised return of the sun god.
🤨 The New Eden: Scriptural traditions associate the East with paradise and the location of the Garden of Eden.
🤨 The Apse: The sanctuary and the altar are situated at the eastern end of the church structure.
🤨 The Liturgical East: Even when geographic constraints prevent physical eastward orientation, the altar wall is treated as "liturgical east."
🤨 Common Direction: The priest and the congregation face the exact same direction during prayer, looking forward together toward the coming of the sun god.
