I recently read the unpublished epilogue to Lord of the Rings, a chapter framed as a conversation between Sam Gamgee and his daughter. It is really beautiful and bittersweet so I illustrated it! You can read it as a scroll here:

So true, for editors too. Also hella frustrating when one does spend a billion years on someone's manuscript for free and then they reject all criticism because it hurts their feelings. It's not personal. It's for the benefit of the work.
