This marks the end of 270 days in the field with these trouble makers. I am just about ready to never see a magpie again (I hear them in my sleep at this point🫠🦅) Now straight to Shark Bay for dolphin season🐬 Will be glad of a big nap and a holiday when this is all over 🥴

Sometimes you fight the worm, sometimes the worm fights back 🪱 ‘Fat Tony’ struggling to win tug-of-war with their breakfast this morning. 8 months into magpie fieldwork, 1 month to go 🥹🏁

Hot off the press! Perverse outcomes from fencing fauna. We find that a population of havened woylies show weakened anti-predator responses after 10 years isolated from predators. Read more below🧵 doi.org/10.1016/j.biocon.202…

Very hard to conduct serious research when your study species is trying to eat your toes… This little one is 11 weeks post-fledge and already very sure of themself…and very peckish👀

Please please please don’t “rescue” any fledglings this season! Their parents are nearby and will be back with a worm or two in a jiff 🪱
Today @G_Blackburn_ and @StephLMason returned a fledgling to its family for a happy reunion! This fledgling was picked up by a person who thought it was in trouble. Just a reminder: magpie fledglings walk on the ground. They are ok! Pls don’t pick them up unless injured!

I don’t believe Dutton is truly sorry for walking out on the Apology. He’s only sorry that, instead of becoming a folk hero, it exposed him as an uncaring far-right ideologue. He should never be PM. The Canberra Times asked me for my view, so here it is: canberratimes.com.au/story/7…

The idea that an 18-year-old can walk into a store and buy assault weapons is just wrong. What in God’s name do you need an assault weapon for except to kill someone?

Anyone else’s research assistant constantly licking their knees and asking to share their lunch? Beginning to think this isn’t a professional working relationship… (We won’t talk about the part where she sleeps on my bed, or follows me into the bathroom…👀)
