A wonderful celebration of appreciation in Seeley’s Bay this afternoon for Dr. Debbie Briggs, who is retiring after 28 years of providing compassionate, quality care to her patients. Dr. Briggs’ dedication has truly made a difference - and the full house was a testament to how much her patients and the community cares for her. She also ensured a continuity of care for her patients by helping recruit her successor, Dr. Tauqeer Tariq, who was welcomed to the community today. So pleased that Ontario’s Rural Economic Development through Immigration pilot program that was led locally by the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville Economic Development Office helped get Dr. Tariq from the United Kingdom and smoothed his licensing process. An example of how a retiring doctor, municipal medical recruitment initiatives, and a provincial program can work together to bring medical professionals to our communities. Happy Seniors Month! @SteveClarkPC and I were proud to host our first annual Seniors Expo in Brockville with Senior Support Services LLG, where more than 160 seniors joined us to connect with local resources and friends. Thank you to everyone who helped make it a success, and to the seniors who built our communities and continue to strengthen them every day.

Thanks to Katie Nolan from Community Futures Grenville and Trish McNamara from 1000 Islands CDC for the great discussion today. Pleased to get an update on their operations and the incredible supports their organizations provide, as well as some insight into what they see happening in the local small business sector. Also appreciated learning more about their Medical Practitioner Recruitment Loan program - another resource to help local communities recruit new primary care providers to Leeds and Grenville. We're so fortunate to have Katie, Trish, their teams, and their board members working in our region!

Our government is taking action to reduce building costs and speed up the construction of new homes through the Development Charge Reduction Program. This is a new, shared program with the federal government that will deliver $8.8 billion in funding towards housing-enabling infrastructure projects for municipalities that cut development charges by 30% or more. We've teamed up with the amazing folks at Senior Support Services-LLG to organize a day featuring informative speakers on topics ranging from fraud prevention and Community Paramedic Services to the many ways seniors can get involved in the community. We also have exhibitors from more than 20 local organizations and businesses. I'm also pleased that Service Ontario and Service Canada will be there with their teams. There is no cost to attend and, of course, we'll have refreshments! The Seniors Expo begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. at the New Hope Church, 2811 Second Concession, Brockville. Congratulations to the Westport Lions Club, who celebrated their 80th anniversary last night. Pleased to attend the celebration with MP Michael Barrett and Mayors Robin Jones & Arie Hoogenboom. As I said in my remarks, there isn’t a person who has called the Westport area home over the past eight decades whose life hasn’t been made better by the efforts of Lions Club members. What a perfect morning in Kemptville to kick off the 5th annual Kemptville Buskerfest with MP Michael Barrett & Mayor Nancy Peckford! Honoured on behalf of Minister Stan Cho to announce that our government is providing $20,000 to this year’s festival through the Experience Ontario program. It’s helped make this the biggest Buskerfest yet, bringing in even more visitors to boost the town’s economy. This is one of nine local events the program is funding, for a total of nearly $260,000. Congratulations to the organizing committee, including Chair Sierra Jones-Martel, the volunteers, and sponsors on putting together a fabulous event. 👏 🤹
