Some background on this footage. I think police swept in because they were desperate to get an arrest on camera. By this stage, several hours in, they’d arrested maybe 50 people. Unfortunately, they tackled her just as she’d finished telling me about her grandparents’ and father’s experiences of the holocaust. It was an incredibly jarring and utterly grotesque moment
The moment, mid-interview, that the daughter of a Holocaust survivor is arrested for protesting the proscription of Palestine Action.

Grear points made here by @StevenJMethven @NoJusticeMTG - on the low status of health & care workers & the rioters absolutely not being viewed as leaders in most communities. And decades of working class communities, white, black & brown being shat on. youtu.be/EetXRh9V3J4?is=IFU_…

Tell that to working class people who have literally worked themselves into early graves for decades because of attitudes like this and a lack of adequate support. Middle class issue, my arse.

‘I feel like it’s a uniquely middle class issue that disgusts me!’ Should we be kinder to MPs due to ‘burnout’? @Ella_M_Whelan weighs in.

NEW: The Green Party of England and Wales is re-opening nominations this evening for the upcoming by-election in Makerfield. The move comes after the selected candidate, Chris Kennedy, withdrew from the role for personal and family reasons.

A Green Party Spokesperson said, “We wish Chris the best and understand that family has to come first. As a party, we are re-opening nominations now because we believe people in Makerfield deserve a real choice at this by-election, and the Green Party will be standing to offer exactly that. Across the country, more and more voters are turning away from the old parties and looking for politicians who will genuinely stand up for their communities."

"We will also be redoubling our efforts on campaigning to expose the risk of Reform, a party who seeks to divide our communities. This election has to be about how to make the super-rich pay their fair share, how we tackle the cost-of-living crisis with lower bills and affordable housing, and how we protect our public services and our green spaces. It has to be about offering Makerfield hope over hate.”

Reviving the Brexit debate is "quite the stall to set out when you’re pitching for the biggest job in politics," writes @StevenJMethven. "Guaranteed to turn the stomach of one chunk of the electorate, overstimulate the hope cores of another, and send the rest into a spiral of screaming pub lunch flashbacks, little could be more divisive." Madness. Who is this for? Maybe it’ll create a headline or briefly please some of his many desperate and inexperienced MPs. But the rest of us will just think, sad, the prime minister has called in mum and dad to protect him (they can’t)
Together, we will build a stronger and fairer Britain.

loving all the pundits repeatedly saying the local elections will change the face of British politics forever dun dun dun as though it's a weather event, rather than a mass rejection by the people -- divided as they might currently be -- of them and the powers they serve
