So my latest #FM24 simulation has seen me run this tactic for Rangers on a season, and compare it vs how five other managers do when put in charge of the club Clement, Kevin Muscat, Frank Lampard, Francesco Farioli...and Michael Beale Results are certainly interesting

Further to this, our last 3 games XG against vs goals conceded Motherwell - 0.76, 3 conceded Hearts - 0.75, 2 conceded Celtic - 1.04, 3 conceded This comes from facing a veryhigh-performing finishing or, more commonly, suffering from poor goalkeeping or defensive errors

Before the games in the last seven days, Rohl had dropped points in eight games. In those games, Rangers were only out-XG'd in two of those - the drab 0-0 draw at Hibs and the 2-2 Old Firm with Celtic at Ibrox (XG for the latter was skewed by late Celtic pen)

THREAD 🧵 It is understandable that pressure has fallen on Danny Rohl, as it should for any manager who losses third in a row. However, the underlying data on his Rangers dropped points shows the issues go way beyond him and more on to his players

On average in those eight games, Rangers out XG'd their opponents 2.34 to 1.26. In comparison, it was 0.87 to 0.9 in the games against Hearts and Celtic

Whilst Danny Rohl has been far from perfect in recent games and faces a difficult summer if still in post, the effects of the Motherwell defeat - and the manner of it - caused the now familiar mental collapse of the on-field performance

Not a great watch but at the same time, never a game Rangers looked like losing either

''Unfortunately, we go into deadline day seemingly scrambling for a striker to see out the season and no real concrete links anywhere else on the pitch. With a deal for Ryan Naderi being held up by his club, and logistics regarding other transfers holding up a move for Cameron Archer on loan, it is still plausible that the three forwards who’ve struggled all season are the ones to see it out. To me, if that is the case, Rangers can kiss any outside chance of a title goodbye. We need something different on top of what we’ve got to add that extra dimension to things. The squad as it stands have at least shown a willingness to work their back sides off for the manager in whatever way he has asked of them. But would they be able to consistently perform above and beyond to oversee Hearts and Celtic? Are the options in reserve good enough? It is questionable. So really, we need two more at least by the end of the window. If it is to be one, it has got to be a striker. If zero, then it could be another painful second half of the season domestically.'' @StevenW1192 on Rangers looking for a forward on deadline day. ''If you take Hearts away as an outlier, it has been a while since I remember Rangers conceding a trademark ‘daft’ goal when it had felt like a recurring regular nightmare. Players who had been seen as duds bought straight from the previous sporting directors long term wish list are actually starting to show close to the standard that got them a move here to begin with. Max Aarons is actually passing the ball forward, which seems miraculous when you think back to August. Fans are rightly remaining pessimistic, as we’ve been stung too often in the past by scenarios like this, and they are clever enough to take note of the fact that we still look a good bit off at the top end of the pitch. Thankfully, the transfer window so far this month has given us enough hope that this could change fairly quickly if all goes to plan. The signing of Andreas Skov Olsen in particular, seems a real statement that the 49ers group see the opportunity at hand to win this league title. Add a good quality striker and a creative midfielder in the days to come, then maybe, just maybe, the dream could start becoming a reality over the remaining games. That all comes down to the work of one man - the one whose name was sung so loudly across all areas of Ibrox at the weekend. That being Danny Rohl.'' @StevenW1192 on the optimism around Rangers and Danny Rohl. Read the full article below patreon.com/posts/winning-ru…

''In the wake of Rangers 1-0 post-Christmas victory over Motherwell, a surprising and frankly shocking stat emerged that, if you’d told any supporter it’d be the case three months ago, they’d have said you’d had too much to drink over the holidays. The stat in question is, with 15 goals in 18 games, Danny Rohl’s side now boast the best defensive record in the entire Scottish Premiership. Yes, the same group of players who were opened with ease back in August in Brugge to go out of the Champions League have conceded less than the likes of Celtic and Hearts at the half way point of the season. Given that this has happened at a time where the three first choice centre backs have been largely unavailable, then all the credit for this record falls fully on the shoulders of the former Sheffield Wednesday manager. During the opening weeks of the campaign, Rangers were equally toothless at both ends of the pitch, resulting in a frightening number of games not won that ended up seeing Russell Martin get the boot before Halloween. Now, it is clear watching us since Rohl was appointed that we haven’t exactly started playing blistering football over night. However, instead of trying to completely reinvent the wheel in one go, he has instead prioritised areas that needed most attention first before working on the others. As the earlier mentioned night in Brugge in the final Champions League qualifier would allude to, the side’s defensive setup was all over the shop under Martin. It wasn’t even like this match was a fluke result in that one side just produced their A best football on that night. The 6-0 loss was weeks in the making across all competitions in that any time a team would attack the Rangers backline, they always looked like they had a high likelihood of scoring. New signings like Nasser Djiga would end up looking like fish out of water consistency, whilst experienced players such as James Tavernier and John Souttar seemed to not have the legs to play the way they were being asked to. What Rohl seemed to have worked on consistently week-in-week-out - based purely on the eye test - is that he has got the players looking a lot more organised out of possession. Not just that, but it also looks as though he isn’t just sticking with one approach and hoping it works and is showing a great level of flexibility to counteract his opposition - the latter more obvious in recent games more than his early ones. Let’s look at that recent victory over Motherwell as a prime example of that.'' @StevenW1192 on the small improvements in the Rangers set-up. Read the full article here. patreon.com/posts/surprising…
