This 🧵is long but important.
I never understood death, what the body goes thru, & how much pain it's possible to feel until I was diagnosed w/ metastatic breast cancer, an incurable cancer.

I urge every person reading this to sign & share this letter to the Governor to support giving people the right to choose THIS option.
Even if this is something you would never choose, consider people like me who WILL die from cancer.

A cancer I’ve been trying to keep at bay for 12 years. I not there yet but realistically, I will be someday. I need to know I have an option my friends didn't have.

BREAKING: The #MedicalAidinDying Act (S.138) has passed in the NY State Senate!
With this historic vote, New Yorkers may soon have access to the full suite of end-of-life care options they deserve. The bill now moves to @GovKathyHochul's desk to hopefully be signed into law!

New Yorkers! Do NOT allow S.138-Hoylman-Sigal/A.136-Paulin to pass the NY Senate! It would reverse NY's historical ban on assisted suicide, and allow physicians to prescribe lethal does of medication to intentionally end a patient's life.

Using that same logic, I would then qualify as well if I stopped treatment b/c I couldn't afford the $15K/month for ONE of my medications & wait for the cancer take over & I have 6 months to live.
It's NOT happening - insulin is WAY cheaper & there is financial help available

In Oregon, diabetes has been listed as a qualifying underlying condition. Under the practical application of the NY law, it would qualify here as well if a patient cannot afford insulin or chooses not to take it.

Terminal in the law is 6 months or less to live.
People with Metastatic Breast cancer, like me, try to call it "chronic" because some of us live longer than the median life span of 18-36 months
I was diagnosed Stage 4 from day one in 2013
I will eventually run out of options

Today I started Verzenio & Anastrozole. March scans showed progression in my bones after being stable for almost 11 yrs.
Back to scans every three months.
