Getting ready to start the last set of robot samples of the run! Squeezing in those last few user samples before giving the robot a nice long break until October.

Bonus clip of an excellent capillary alignment!

Exciting times at @SLAClab and @SSRLnews! Finally putting the first (heavily attenuated) synchrotron X-rays on the @DECTRIS_News Eiger 4M at beamline 17-2. Thanks to @ExistentialChem and Ross Arthur for letting me push the button to take this image.

Really happy to see this work finally come out. It was a long time in the making (6 years!) but it went a lot more quickly once @lauraelenamundt and @LSchelhas got involved. If you are interested in strain in hybrid perovskite thin films, give it a look. pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021…

It isn’t often that my ranching and physics background intersect, but consider this spherical cow…

I don’t always make perovskites. But when I do, I do it on a beamline.

And apparently I can make them at room temperature? That’s a new one… 🧐

Last week it was the Anton Paar. This week is the new blade coater (too bad it isn’t this pretty with all of the cables and vacuum lines hooked up)! As great as it is to see these generating data on the beamline, it makes me miss those nice simple ex-situ experiments.

A really nice article by Cara. I’m very proud to be a part of this effort and helping to represent @SSRLnews! Reshaping the World of Research Through Remote Experimentation #NSLSII bnl.gov/newsroom/news.php?a=… via @BrookhavenLab

Just had to use the last bit of daylight to test this out. Delivery delayed a week because of the weather, but excited for my new ⁦⁦@SpaceX⁩ dishy! Should do much better up on the roof, but I’m not climbing up there tonight.

As much as I accomplished and as hard as I worked over the last year, I think that I am too burnt out to feel particularly proud of much of it. Instead of a celebratory drink, I decided a dram of something special would act as a demarcation of the shift to winter break. Slàinte!

Last sample that needed to be run by hand at @SSRL_Beamlines BL2-1 finished. Time to let Mr. Roboto take the last night shift before the winter break. Only 6 samples, should be done by the time I get home and have dinner.

The pain of loading capillaries in the glovebox for powder diffraction always turns to deep satisfaction when I get the spinner nicely aligned.

The midpoint(?) of a long day at the start of a long weekend. The new sample chamber is (mostly) in and the robot is (sort of) in. Just need to have the robot doing sample changes for me by Monday!
