In 1964, Santa Claus won the Epsom Derby. Someone buried a note under a statue in Crystal Palace Park:
“Back a horse whose name can in some way be associated with Santa Claus” some winning coins.
Fast-forward to April 2026: Romanian builder Crăciun Marius Dorin (Crăciun = “Christmas” in Romanian) finds it while moving the statue.
The crew Mayor spot Christmas Day running in the 2026 Derby… and pile in at 7/1.
On 6 June 2026, Christmas Day (trained by Aidan O’Brien) storms home down the centre of the track to win the Derby — exactly as the 62-year-old note “predicted.”
The time capsule prophecy came true! 😱
A note buried in 1964, and found this year, told the finder to bet on Christmas Day...and he WON!
Here's how the story unfolded 👇
In 1964, a horse called Santa Claus won the Epsom Derby, in a race where he was help up early, then produced with a run down the centre of the course in the home straight.
Christmas Day won the Derby in a very similar fashion, and it gets weirder...
This April, a contractor was moving the bust of Sir Joseph Paxton in Crystal Palace Park when he found a sealed time capsule underneath. Inside: a few old coins and a note telling whoever found it to back a Derby runner whose name could be "associated with Santa Claus."
The man who found the note, a Romanian man who's name "Crăciun", literally translates to Christmas...
With the information eventually passed from him to the Mayor of Bromley, Christine Harris, it was revealed, to her amazement, that there was a horse in the forthcoming Derby called Christmas Day.
The construction crew & the mayor all put money on the horse, with Mrs Harris vowing to donate any prize money to two local mayoral charities.
And in a remarkable twist of fate, Christmas Day, held up, angled down the centre of the straight, just like Santa Claus, eventually romped home at 7/1 for Aidan O'Brien.
The prophecy came true. 🎅
