If you have federal student debt, you may have recently received an email from the Department of Education telling student debtors who are in the SAVE forbearance to switch plans. We want to encourage you to not rush this next step. Take a deep breath. You have until September.

It shouldn’t be this way and it doesn’t HAVE to be this way! The fastest way to build a future that actually works for people starts with investing in service workers. Working people already know how to solve problems, care for our communities, train the next generation, and keep America running every single day. If we want a stronger economy, safer communities, and a future where more people can thrive, working people need a seat at the table. Build with us, NOT around us.

Good moment to clarify here. The law actually existed on the books for about a week. We filed a lawsuit saying relief should be administered automatically as the law demands. 99 minutes later, the 8th circuit gutted SAVE. The DOJ is trying to pretend like that week doesn't count.
Replying to @StrikeDebt
it is an argument tho

There is no temporal aspect to the law. When the law exists, the expectation is that it is implemented. Laws are not "vibes."

We filed a lawsuit to say the federal government should administer the student debt cancellation that was legally on the books. The DOJ just replied with a motion to dismiss our lawsuit — and their argument is super revealing. They admit the SAVE plan was *better* for debtors.

We're going to keep fighting stupid regulations that make it harder for student debtors to get by. Are you in SAVE? Help us out by filling out our survey. The information helps us with lawsuits and advocacy. secure.everyaction.com/Sbiks…

This is the playbook. Tenants unionized and withheld rent because they had unsafe conditions payments were unaffordable. They built up debt. Then city officials intervened pressured the landlord to cancel the debts. This can happen everywhere. gothamist.com/news/landlord-…

Actually cannot believe this is a real New York Times story. Apparently debt collectors are having a tough time financially right now — because many of them are being called by other debt collectors.

Just a quick reminder that the biggest bill increase any single worker will get in 2026 is not gas, utilities or even rent—it's student loans. Trump's bill last year means a person making $40,000 a year will have their student loan payment skyrocket from $20 a month to $100.

When we talk about free, reparative public goods lke "free college," we're actually talking about making *formerly* public school systems public *again*.

We’re already facing the worst student loan crisis in history: nearly 1 in 4 borrowers are in default. Now Trump wants to make it even worse. On July 1, he’ll eliminate the most affordable repayment plan and raise costs by as much as $4,000 a year. We can’t let that happen.

New: As Trump transfers federal student loans from the Department of Education to Treasury, defaulted borrowers will be routed through private companies that were previously sued or fined by federal watchdogs for "abusive" practices. businessinsider.com/student-…

Extremely wild clause in a bill House Republicans are set to vote on Tuesday. It would eliminate funding by "any local education agency" to conduct school shooter drills for kids under 16 years old.

This is a stepping stone to relegating higher education to a select class of wealthy white folks by the way.
It's happening 🚨 House GOP representatives are about to introduce a bill that would completely eliminate subsidized student loans. They are trying to make it impossible to go to college unless you can afford to pay for it upfront.
