We want more creative jobs in the North East.
So, we’re investing £2m to open a new @NewWritingNorth Centre for Writing and Publishing in the North East in the Old Post Office building in Newcastle.
For too long, talented people in these industries had to to go London to succeed. I have promised to fix that.
With this investment we’re a step closer to writers, publishers and creatives having the home they need to tell the our story and tell it here.

Very sad to hear that Chris Rea has died. A great north eastern singer/songwriter & blues man. A superb guitarist, with an unmistakable voice. He wrote so many classy pop hits including Fool (If You Think it’s Over), On The Beach, Road to Hell & Driving Home For Christmas. RIP

The Coldstream Guards were trooping their colour this morning, and as the regiment recruits in the North East they marched past the King to the strains of ‘Northumbrian Airs’, which features Keep Your Feet Still Geordie Hinny, the Lambton Worm and the Blaydon Races 🫡
