Down to a sunless sea: memories of my dad retweeted
Bear in mind, for years, we, a burnt out, exhausted, depressed, but loving and intensely rewarded, force were being told 'dementia is a gift'.
Now THAT is nasty.

Dementia is really crap. As a son, I felt I was losing mum daily. I had the odd 'achievement', but the overall path was a sharp turn for the worse. When you're exhausted, you're prone to feel a bit bitter, a bit hyperbolic. We still loved our loved ones.
But dementia is CRAP

.@dr_shibley "By airbrushing individuals with more severe dementia from sight or public discourse, we have produced a massively imbalanced analysis of the needs of persons with dementia and carers." Well said, Shibley. #dementia#Alzheimers@alzheimerssoc
I’m really glad that it was @NonFicPatrick who was the one who got to record the final overview of my dad’s working life. A life I was only alive for two years of. Patrick was the perfect person for it.

My dad would have been 100 today if he hadn’t died at 96. I made a podcast series about him before he died in 2020, @SunlessPod which is probably one of the best audio things I’ve ever made. So if you want to remember him or meet him for the first time that’s a good place to go:
And this week's Spirit of the Podgoblin's Hat is: @SunlessPod, a podcast about @goosefat101’s dad combining memoir, clips from over 10 years of recordings, sound design, and interviews with experts, that takes you on a journey down to a sunless sea.

ALT An image of an old man, Peter Pickering, is formed from ripples in the waves along a sandy shoreline. It’s mostly made of blues and greens, with touches of white foam and a little bit of indigo. Peter’s face is seen from the side and he stares off into the water. The words Down to a Sunless Sea are written in white typewriter text on the water.

This week we're reading the second half of Comet in Moominland! Moomintroll meets the fabled Snorkmaiden and falls in love on the spot, our brave adventurers attend not one but two end-of-the-world parties, and the muskrat gets stuck into something gooey.

Episode 4 of The Podgoblin's Hat (@ThePodgoblin) with @gourenina and Dave (me) is out.
We read the first half of one of my favourite #Moomins books Comet in Moominland and finally meet #Snufkin.

If you do, then let us know and it may be used in a future episode (we are recording episode 11 tomorrow so that’s the earliest they may feature!)
ALT An image from the Moomins comic books featuring Moominpappa (a hippo like Moomintroll in a top hat, holding an empty glass and a newspaper) leaning over a table with a bottle of wine on it asking Snufkin (a human like Snufkin wearing a hat and smoking a pipe with a half full glass in front of him) to tell him “all that’s happening in the world”. Snufkin replies “Fuss and misery”. The image is in black and white only and the speech is in speech bubbles.
