A new report shows that Sunrun’s first-of-its-kind distributed power plant with PG&E successfully supplied targeted power to neighborhoods with highly-constrained electric grids When power lines and substations are nearing capacity, utilities have to add more distribution infrastructure. This collaboration shows that home batteries can come to the rescue by dispatching critical energy exactly when and where it’s needed. More than 1,000 Sunrun customers’ storage-plus-solar systems exported energy over last summer and fall to alleviate overloaded substations and power lines, with the goal of helping PG&E avoid or defer distribution upgrades while generating net savings for all utility customers. “Working with partners like Sunrun is a win for our customers, our electric grid and California as a whole.
