GM Mahdi Gholami Orimi 🇮🇷 is the 2025 Champion of the #SunwaySitges International Chess Festival! He also retains the Chess Pentathlon title, which honors the most complete chess player of our event. Amazing player and very nice person.

Played my first open tournament in 2 years at @SunwayChessOpen & gained 22 Elo. I haven’t had much time to train while traveling, but constant exposure to top-level games & a relaxed approach (even working during the event) clearly helped. Happy to have been back at the board 😊

After 10 intense rounds, the champion of the tournament had to be decided in a playoff, that also decided 3rd place among 6 players tied with half a point less than the 2 leaders. Amazing setup as usual thanks to #SunwaySitges team!
