COMPLETION OF PHASE 1 OF THE PAJARO LIBRARY–PORTER VALLEJO MANSION!🏠📚 Today, the Alliance of Monterey Area Preservationists honored the renovation of the historic Porter Vallejo Mansion and Pajaro Library with its Project of the Year Award. This recognition celebrates the successful completion of Phase 1, which included a full exterior restoration and installation of a new roof, preserving one of Pajaro’s most treasured historic landmarks for future generations.
Now, we look forward to Phase 2, which will focus on renovating the building’s interior and making the upper floors accessible by adding an elevator and stair improvements to bring the second and third floors into ADA compliance. These upgrades will allow the community to fully utilize the building and expand access to valuable programs, services, and resources. Construction is expected to be completed by Summer 2027.
This project represents a significant investment in preserving our history while preparing for the future. Thank you to our outstanding Monterey County Facilities team, contractors, preservation advocates, and community partners for their dedication and craftsmanship.
This project was made possible through a state allocation secured under Assembly Bill 102, which I advocated for in 2023, along with funding from Monterey County’s Strategic Reserves.
Together, we are preserving Pajaro’s rich history, expanding community opportunities, and ensuring this iconic landmark continues to serve residents in Pajaro for generations to come.👏🏽🏛️📚
