☀️ Surrey's sunshine is giving us all the cycling tans! Those classic "cycling lines" are making their grand appearance! 🚴‍♀️ This past Saturday was absolutely brilliant! Our club came together in perfect harmony, with members across multiple groups hitting the roads. The G3 team crushed it with their ride to Charlwood via Crittenden and Leith Hill, with a pit stop at 52 The Street Cafe. 100KM and 1000m climbing - now that's a proper day out! 🏆 Our early bird G4s were up at 6:30am for an epic journey to Bordon. 130KM and 1100m elevation later, they were still smiling! Hey Surrey Cyclists 👋🏻🚴‍♀️🚴🚴‍♂️ What a lovely weekend at Surrey Cycling Club! The weather was great this week! ☀️ Over Saturday and Sunday, our members were out cycling in so many different places! Where did you go? Find any nice spots? Tell us about it! On Saturday we welcomed Mark, Roisin, and Cristian who joined us for our free demo rides. Great to meet you all. Fingers crossed we’ll see you again for another ride, or maybe as members! On Saturday, six groups went out between 7:30am and 9am. Early ones got quiet roads, and the 9am group enjoyed the sun. A lot of people wore the summer kit with shorts. Looked spot on! Sunday was just as good. Our Social group rode to Windsor, taking in the views and a coffee break at Cinnamon. Meanwhile, G5 went through the Surrey Hills, stopping at Milk Churn for a classic cheese toasty!. The scenery was brilliant, the chat was fun, and the legs worked hard! 🥵 It was ace seeing so many members out, enjoying the rides and the company. What a way to kick off 2025 with Surrey Cycling Race Team! The ART Winter Warmer Race 1 at Abingdon Dalton Barracks fired up the season with a bang. Our team’s growing fast, and this weekend John, Raf, and Pete tackled the Cat 4 race. We wished for dry conditions, but no such luck! Still, with 42 riders in the mix, Raf nabbed a brilliant 6th place. Great stuff! 🚴‍♂️ Next up, Jamie and Kyle teamed up for the Cat 3 race. They pushed hard, even sparking a five-man breakaway for a couple of laps before the pack regrouped. The racing was electric all morning, huge congrats to the winners and the organisers! 🌟 What a Start to the Year! 🌟 We are still buzzing - and no, not from storm Éowyn, though it did set the tone for an epic Saturday ride! This weekend marked the debut of our G6 ride, an effort-based group where speeds can exceed 40 km/h on the flats, depending on the riders. Think G5, but with a turbocharged edge! What made it extra special? Joining us was Rory Townsend, Irish National Road Race Champion (2022) and rider for UCI ProTeam Q36.5. Rory has raced on some of the world’s biggest stages, including the World Championships and European Games, and has victories in the Tour of Britain under his belt. Riding with Rory was as inspiring as it was humbling – his effortless speed and sportsmanship were something to behold! Adding to the excitement was Kyle Choi, former Hong Kong Cycling Representative at the London Olympic Games. Kyle is not only a phenomenal athlete but also a passionate mentor, inspiring young riders through his journey - he inspire us on every club ride! ⭐️ Led by our Ride Captain Jamie, this brisk and spicy G6 ride saw teamwork, fast-paced pulls, and a bit of friendly competition. Let’s keep building on this in 2025! 📊 Club Effort Stats This year, we collectively: Rode 562,009 km – that’s over 14 times around the world! 🌍 Climbed 3,786,661 m – higher than 428 Mount Everests 🏔️ Spent 22,370 hours on the saddle – almost 2.5 years non-stop! Completed 14,303 rides – and every single one counts. Back in 2023, our friends at Kingston Wheelers started an amazing initiative to support Kingston Hospital Charity who needed a brand new bike shed for their incredible NHS staff. The goal was to raise £35,000 to create secure bike storage for hospital staff who rely on cycling to get to work. To celebrate 75 years of the NHS, we teamed up with other fantastic clubs including: @kingstonwheeler Epsom Cycling Club @nmaldenvelo @VelosportCC @WaldyWheelers Today, we are overjoyed to share that the bike shed is finally complete, and we came together to celebrate the grand opening with all the clubs involved. Here is what our Club Founder, @RafalKukla shared about the event: “Working alongside other cycling clubs on this project has been such a rewarding experience. This was about giving back to the NHS staff who do so much for us and showing what the cycling community can achieve when we come together.” This project was about more than fundraising. It was about making life a little easier for #NHS heroes who dedicate themselves to supporting us every day. Seeing it all come to life is a proud moment for everyone involved. Autumn vibes in full swing! 🍂 Saturday morning and we still have riders in shorts – proof winter hasn't fully arrived yet! What a brilliant turnout for November! A warm welcome to Paul, who joined us for his first club ride, and to David, joining us for his first demo. We hope our fantastic ride leaders – Sirous, Adrian, Ian, and Terence – showed you the best of Surrey Cycling Club hospitality and that you enjoyed the company of our incredible members! Our G4 and G5 groups rode to Henley via Sonning, with a well-deserved stop at the Chocolate Cafe. The route covered over 105KM with 500m of elevation – a good mix of distance and challenge! Meanwhile, our G2 and G3 groups headed to Elstead for a cosy stop at The Little Barn Café, with a shorter 80KM route but a bit more climbing at 650m. All groups returned safe and sound, ready for Sunday’s social ride to Windsor’s Cinnamon Cafe. Here’s to more autumn adventures ahead! Today, we held our first hill climb event at Staple Lane, as part of our club ride to The Milk Churn. Though it wasn’t an official event, it was a brilliant effort by all, and we want to congratulate our winners and everyone who took part – it’s all about the experience! Shout-out to the winners: For the women’s category, congratulations to Athena for topping the leaderboard 🥇, with Jacinta taking second place 🥈- 👏 In the men’s category, well done to our race legend Jamie for taking first place 🥇, followed by Neil in second 🥈, and Rafal securing third 🥉! But it’s not just about winning – it’s about showing up, having fun, and being part of the challenge! Happy Monday! What a Weekend! 🎉 This weekend was a special one for Surrey Cycling Club as we celebrated our 4th anniversary! It’s hard to believe the club has been running for four years - with two years spent growing it into the incredible cycling community we have today. To mark the occasion, we had some fantastic rides. Our G5 and G4 groups ventured to Nettlebed - with a stop at The Cheese Shed covering an impressive 125KM. It was a chilly start, with just 5°C in the morning. It felt like we’d woken up in November! But the ride was amazing, with great company and beautiful routes. Meanwhile, our G2 and G3 groups headed to Cookham - stopping at Flat Harry for some well-earned coffee and cake. We also had a warm welcome for many Demo riders over the weekend, with Graham and Jonathan already joining us as full members! At Surrey Cycling Club, it’s all about the people - whether we’re enjoying a relaxed ride, pushing each other’s limits, or just laughing together during a pit stop. This club has helped so many of us make lifelong friends and accomplish things we never thought possible - like cycling from Weybridge to Portsmouth, around the Isle of Wight, and back in one day! Our Wednesday evening session was quite an interesting one! We had one solid group heading towards the Surrey Hills, conquering Staple Lane, and our Chain-Gang session for those seeking speed. 🔥 It was great to see Steve who join us last night. He usually races in Abu Dhabi , and added a bit of spice 🌶️ to our session! 🥵 We actually had two Paceline groups: one averaging an admirable 35km/h over almost 50Km, and the other just around 38km/h!
