The big problem is he let his deputy take the heat --and have her record besmirched --without admitting that he did the same thing.

Principals had a citywide meeting with the chancellor about the budget at 11 which must have been webinar format as they were not allowed to speak/ask questions. At 4pm many were issued class size denials. This is concerning to me as a teacher and stakeholder that the system has such little regard for administrators at a very challenging time of the year to allow them to speak. Nothing about this process with DOE was transparent for those working at the school level. In my opinion, UFT and CSA members have every right to be upset.

NEW: Saying "New Yorkers can no longer trust his judgement or explatnions," Queens Councilman Phil Wong, D-Queens, calls on @doechancellor Kamar Samuels to "step down." "Ongoing investigations and the possibility of criminal exposure mean his first priority will inevitably be his own legal and political survival." Wong's comments come after a vendor testified before the City Council this week that Samuels "made me a scapegoat" for procurement violations Samuels engaged in as a Manhattan superintendent. susanedelman2.substack.com/p…

Full press release: Wong Calls for Schools Chancellor to Step Down Education Committee member says mounting investigations, failed judgment, and broader DOE mismanagement have undermined confidence in the chancellor’s leadership. New York, NY — Council Member Phil Wong (D-Queens), a member of the Education Committee, issued the following statement: “Chancellor Kamar Samuels has lost the confidence of public school parents, educators, and school administrators. Ongoing investigations into his conduct and the possibility of criminal exposure mean his first priority will inevitably be his own legal and political survival, not the needs of our 900,000 students. With a $180,000 no-bid contract under investigation, Samuels’ own acknowledgment of a ‘lapse in procedure,’ and sworn testimony that the probe made a vendor the scapegoat instead of holding senior officials accountable, New Yorkers can no longer trust his judgment or his explanations. At the same time, the Department has rushed an AI rollout with limited public input and presided over a botched online state math exam that left students locked out of testing. These are not isolated mistakes but signs of a deeper failure of leadership, and for the good of our students and schools, Chancellor Samuels should step down.” ###

Mayor Mamdani just released his "pooled" briefing on World Cup preparedness. No reporters were there, with no chance to ask questions, and no information aside from "we're prepared" was given in the "briefing." The press restrictions from this admin are truly unique.

See bottom of page 54 in the DOE's 68-page class size plan: "In FY27, @NYCSchools allocated $244M to support class size reduction. The funding will be distributed across ~360 schools." The DOE has more than 1500 schools. pwsblobprd.schools.nyc/prd-p…

It's not just about a no-bid contract, but honesty and integrity. @DOEChancellor Kamar Samuels has yet to publicly explain why he let an investigative report fault his then-deputy for school procurement violations without admitting his own involvement in the same breaches.

The eyebrow-raising -- and eye-opening-- topic set for a June 16 PTA zoom workshop for parents and staff at PS 3 Charrette school in the West Village: “What Does it Mean to be White in a Multi-Racial Community at PS3? — How does whiteness affect the collective child experience at PS3, as well as the entire community?" The "Listening Circles"discussion will break out in smaller "affinity groups" based on racial identity. PS 3 is 58% white, 18% Hispanic, 10% Asian, 6% Black and 9% "other," according to @Insideschools A spokeperson for @nycschools raised no objection, saying it's not a DOE program: “PTAs may separately choose to host a variety of programs and discussions for their parent communities." nypost.com/2026/06/11/us-new…

With NYC schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels under scrutiny for an alleged cover-up of his role in contract violations, teachers' union prez Mike Mulgrew weighed in on the scandal at @UFT's delegate assembly today, telling members: "The chancellor has been very supportive of us, but due process is due process. . . "Right now, I’d say he has a very good working relationship with us. But we don’t need any more distractions.”
Mayor Mamdani did not answer a question at today's presser whether he has spoken to schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels about his role in alleged procurement violations when he was a Manhattan superintendent. Mamdani has "confidence" in Samuels but takes the investigation seriously.

The scandal exposed how a Spanish teacher working in Upper Manhattan schools for a non-DOE vendor hired by then-superintendent Kamar Samuels was banned from @nycschools in 2014 for physical and verbal abuse of a student, 15, The DOE quietly dropped charges when the teacher agreed to retire, and failed for 4 months to flag his return to District 3. The teacher maintains his NY state license.

The whistleblowing vendor testified 2 days after DOE general counsel Liz Vladeck instructed Samuels not to answer questions by education committee chair Eric Dinowitz. Faced with the stonewalling, Dinowitz and Council Speaker Julie Menin added Kreyling to a panel of speakers before today's Finance committee hearing.

The vendor testified under oath: "Under the leadership of Superintendent Kamar Samuels, who now serves as Chancellor, District 3 contracted for world languages services for two school years—each year utilizing the billing structure recommended by his team. In essence, we were instructed to bill from two organizations because payments to a single vendor that is not approved by the NYC DOE would have been limited to $25,000."
