The death notice in the Stornoway Gazette, the newspaper of her Scottish hometown, read simply that Mary Ann Trump, aged 88, was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Mary MacLeod of 5 Tong, the fishing village she had left at 18 and never stopped belonging to.
