My mother is being referred to as the last missing woman of the October 7th massacre. In truth, whilst we knew that she and my father were both gone, we buried and mourned them, perhaps this is a reminder of how deep the scars of that day are. It’s taken almost exactly 10 months to the day for her death to be confirmed.
And just as our family said in October, 10 months on, we continue to mourn but we do not seek revenge.
My siblings and I have used all the energy we have to ensure my parents’ death is not in vain. They did not die for this war. They died for peace.
Seeing my mothers face in the headlines is a reminder of how much we lost, but I have no doubt in my heart that she would be so proud of the journey my family are on - with Israeli and Palestinian partners - to create a path to peace, through hope and reconciliation.
