If we’re getting real technical there was 2 swimmers who were picked over MA.
One came 6th in the A final with a time slower than the top 3 of the B final.
Factoring Carson he was the 9th fastest 200 Freestyler in the US Trials.

An All-SoCal final! Brandon Nakashima and Marcos Giron go head-to-head for the first time on the ATP Tour-level. Last time these two met was in 2020 at an @ATPChallenger in Indian Wells where Nakashima claimed victory in three sets.
