I am very sad to see this news. I was fortunate enough to visit Peter at his home a number of years ago and conducted an in-depth interview about his life and work. He was fiercely intelligent, funny and infinitely curious about sound. Peter was one of a kind. A true genius.

The hugely influential synth pioneer Peter Zinovieff, has died aged 88. A couple of years ago, BBC Archive caught up with the great man and asked him about his 1968 appearance on Tomorrow’s World and what music would sound like in another 50 years time.

The @radiophonicwork was set up to satisfy the demand in the 50s for "radiophonic" sounds. Daphne Oram looked to new techniques such as tape manipulation to produce effects and music that were previously non-existent.

And on Monday we celebrate Delia Derbyshire Day. Along with fellow @radiophonicwork member Daphne Oram, Derbyshire broke new ground for female electronic composers in the 60s with pieces such as the Dr Who theme.

ALT DD Day offers public events and participatory activities in Greater Manchester, with national touring events and a developing education programme. So far, DD Day has commissioned artists, based primarily in North West England, to respond to the fascinating archive of the late, great Delia Derbyshire, producing new music and art that in turn inspires others. Its charitable aims are: 1) To advance the education of the public in music technology and the history of British electronic music via the archive and works of Delia Derbyshire. 2) To advance the art of British electronic music via the archive and works of Delia Derbyshire.
