I'm still proud of this project of immense autism. I'm not even half finished with it.

Finally got one. The timing of this after many months of doing nothing is sus.
In the early hours of this morning, I directed our Armed Forces to intercept a shadow fleet oil tanker attempting to pass through the English Channel. This successful operation delivers yet another blow to Russia and reminds those fueling Putin's war in Ukraine that we will not let them hide. I want to thank those involved, including our Armed Forces and law enforcement officers who keep this country safe 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

I prefer Restore over Reform, but this is just giving Labour a free win.
A busy day in Makerfield ahead.

HMS Scott departs Falmouth following an extended refit. A lot of hard work from a lot of people to get her to this point. Fair winds and following seas. ⚓ #RoyalNavy #HMSScott #Falmouth

Defence is getting 10 billion over 4 years because "there is no money". Meanwhile, over the same years, 4.5 billion "just" for cycling routes & crossings. Clearly there is nothing that can be done without cutting "growth" or "hospitals". No compromise at all to be devised.

Which means you can't accept the current DIP... What will you do?
The defence of our nation is the first duty of government. Our Armed Forces carry out that duty every day with professionalism, courage, and extraordinary skill. It is a huge honour and a privilege to serve alongside them again.

Weak statement compared to the other two.
Replying to @LukePollard
The threats the UK faces are real and they’re growing. We need to meet this moment. I’m staying on as a defence minister to play my part in getting this right.

💥A senior military source tells @thetimes that Starmer's defence funding offer will “undermine our ability to lead in any alliance from Nato to the JEF [Joint Expeditionary Force]”. The source said of the chaos over defence spending: “It does considerable damage. We are now one of the lowest defence spenders in Nato, a 180 [degree-turn] from the historic trend to the UK being the highest per capita European defence spender. The influence we once had with nations looking to us as the example is over.” thetimes.com/uk/defence/arti…

For the last 35 years there have been cuts to defence, which has meant more spending on schools and hospitals.

Defence Under-Secretary of State also resigned over DIP, and calls the Northern Ireland Legacy Bill "Unfit for purpose" - which he avoided voting in by going overseas.
We owe those who serve the UK the kit to do the job and the loyalty to stand by them when it's done. We are failing on both. I’ve spent my whole time in government making that case. Number 10 will not listen, so I am resigning as Minister for the Armed Forces. Letter to the PM below.🫡🫡🫡⬇️⬇️

If the DIP is not properly funded, then we go in to the NATO summit as one of the weakest nations, both on rearming and leadership. An absolutely wild collapse of hard and soft power in these last 2 years.
Sir Keir Starmer will be heading into the lion’s den at the Nato leaders’ summit in Ankara next month because his funding plan for defence falls woefully short of the commitment he has made to the alliance. My explainer on where we are and what we face at Nato thetimes.com/uk/defence/arti…

None of which is possible without security. These things he lists are luxuries afforded by been strong and been defended. We've had peace for so long in the west, that its broken their brains.
We do not need to spend more money on bombs and bullets. We need to spend more on housing, schools and our NHS instead. A roof over your head. Enough food to feed your children. A public health service you can rely on in your time of need. That is what real security means.

Pension security above all.
In a message sent internally to the armed forces, Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton, the chief of the defence staff, has told troops that it is "important that we remain apolitical and are not drawn into speculation about decisions that are for ministers to make". "In uncertain times, it is more important than ever that we stay focused on our duty to defend the UK and its interests across the world without fear or favour. The work our armed forces do matters, and it matters more than it has done for many years," he wrote. He said he "looked forward" to welcoming the new defence secretary when they were announced, and thanked military personnel for "everything that you do for the nation". "You should be rightly proud of the role you play in keeping us safe" thetimes.com/uk/politics/art…

Perhaps the grimmest part of John Healey’s brutal resignation letter is that defence spending, projected to be 2.6% GDP by 2027, will only reach 2.68% in 2030. A pathetic 0.08% increase over three years after all that Starmer rhetoric about the dangerous times we live in and how UK would lead the way stepping up to the crease. A real leader would have told Reeves to cough up the dosh and ordered Miliband to hand over a big chunk of his net zero budget. But he’s probably too weak to do either.
