What does bcf/d mean? It stands for billion cubic feet per day. It’s how we measure the volume of natural gas moving through pipelines every day. The scale is growing fast. By 2035, global natural gas demand is expected to rise by ~45 bcf/d, about the size of today’s entire European gas market. That kind of growth depends on reliable infrastructure. In January, our Canadian natural gas pipelines set a new single-day record of 33.2 Bcf. Our U.S. system reached a record 39.9 Bcf in a single day. Behind every number is the infrastructure that keeps energy flowing and communities connected.

70 years ago, a pivotal moment shaped Canada’s energy future. From May–June 1956, the Great Pipeline Debate led to the approval of an all-Canadian route connecting western energy to the east. It was ambitious, complex and forward-looking. That moment became a defining chapter in our story. Today, we continue connecting the world to the energy it needs.

Secure energy. Secure economy. Resilience starts with reliable energy. Hospitals, defense installations, manufacturers and communities depend on natural gas—especially in extreme weather. Our interconnected network is the backbone for grid stability and growing LNG exports, strengthening alliances and reinforcing North America’s role in global energy security. Oct. 10, 1958 at 6:46 p.m.: the final weld on the Canadian Mainline in Kapuskasing, Ontario. The connection completed the first pipeline linking Alberta’s natural gas to eastern Canada. At the time, it was the longest natural gas pipeline in the world. More than 75 years later, we still honour the “golden weld”, a tradition that reflects the dedication behind every connection.

“Strong energy systems require strong foundations.” — President and CEO, François Poirier The Mexican government’s recent announcement to strengthen its natural gas pipeline network and streamline permitting reinforces a clear idea: energy infrastructure and investment certainty are key to economic growth. We want to continue collaborating with authorities and key stakeholders to contribute to Mexico’s development.

Canada has a rare opportunity to reduce global emissions far beyond our borders—and we’re already doing it. Asia’s coal use is up 20% in a decade and now represents 80% of global consumption. Displacing just 20% with natural gas could cut 680M tonnes of emissions annually—equal to Canada’s total. Coastal GasLink is delivering natural gas for LNG exports, helping to displace higher emission coal-fired power in Asia.
