#OnThisDay in 1983, Quiet Riot released their 3rd album "Metal Health" featuring the hit single Cum On Feel The Noize (a #5 hit on the Hot 100). Metal Health was the 1st heavy metal album to reach #1 on the Billboard charts, reaching the top spot in November 1983. #80sMetal

In my head, heavy metal begins with Black Sabbath s/t, and then metal begins with Kill 'em All. And the most important album in the middle is Sad Wings, but it gets no genre-izing.

Because you have to differentiate what is metal and what isn't. Certainly Deep Purple and Black Sabbath were not metal, metal pioneers and metal albums are 2 different things.
