On a day which I know will be filled with crises to contain, issues to shape, communications to manage, it was wonderful to have this little visitor outside my bedroom window this morning, reminding me that there are other things that also matter in life

Small and beautifully brought into the world by @TATFS - much obliged to be the MF behind Elizabeth Bishop's roadster and John Betjeman's speed freakout. Order the highly collectible first issue now.
My small magazine of "pith and pleasure" THE LITTLE REVIEW is in this week's TLS.

Perhaps surprising but possibly inspired choice of Bob Prevost as new pope. I rather expect Trump ‘s early delight may fade quite rapidly. Pope #Leo has already demonstrated values and commitments which don’t sit comfortably in the Donald realm

Outstanding Spears 500 day at the Savoy today. Several really important presentations, and the opportunity to meet a number of truly extraordinary and interesting people .

Excellent presentation by #Zambia’s High Commissioner, #MacenjeMazoka, today at the Westminster Africa Business Group lunch . Of course it faces significant economic challenges, but Zambia truly does have the potential to become one of Africa’s great success stories

Perhaps a little early to talk about the #nextPope. But this election could be particularly important - not just for the Catholic Church. A good time, perhaps, to be looking to Asia or Africa, and Tagle from the Philippines just might be an exceptionally inspired choice .

From 'maybe I should start a magazine one day – what should I call it?' to holding finished copies of the first issue took 11 weeks.
I made a magazine.

Tristram Fane Saunders's article "How Douglas Adams predicted the future" in The Telegraph: telegraph.co.uk/books/author…. "Always a reluctant prophet, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy author nevertheless foresaw such innovations as social media and chatbots". @TATFS @Telegraph

Has anyone ever heard of a scam where a pet is taken to be groomed, damage is inflicted on the poor animal after the grooming, it is taken to a vet who confirms that damage has occurred, and then compensation is claimed from the groomer?

Encouraging to see Goldman Sachs report that the #NigerianNaira is the world’s best performing currency this month “and could extend its gains”. Still much to be done, but due credit to President #Tinubu for the difficult, not necessarily popular, economic measures he has taken
