Nottingham Forest didn’t win an elite competition and we all need to stop pretending they did, the European Cup wasn’t even that big then, Malmo in the final! This should never be compared to modern day UCL run.

Forest faced 4 sides 45th or lower in the Coefficients, more than they faced sides in the top 10.

Aside from that season Malmo never made it past the 2nd round of the European Cup, finished 2nd in the league and their top goalscorers had 6 league goals. Squad was mostly Swedish players, many with caps for a country that didn’t qualify for a major tournament for 12 years.

Nottingham Forest didn’t win an elite competition and we all need to stop pretending they did, the European Cup wasn’t even that big then, Malmo in the final! This should never be compared to modern day UCL run.

- “knockout only makes it harder” is a dumb argument, having a group stage means there’s more opportunity to be knocked out, by the time you get to the knockout stages you’re in the same position as Forest were when they started their run yet you’ve had to win more

#nffc fans now in my mentions with “they were the best teams in Europe at the time” Completely false, likes of Malmo and Grasshoppers were not better than Barcelona and AC Milan ever, not even close. Format is the reason Forest won those trophies not being the best in Europe
