The day when this happens again, I will get the newspaper framed and hung in every room of my house. Hopefully that day comes someday soon.
Fun Fact: #OTD in 2002 the #Gophers Men’s Hockey team beats Maine 4-3 in OT and wins the NCAA championship. newspapers.com/clip/12250838…

The run of Gophers winning the Stanley Cup stretches to five consecutive seasons. Here’s to hoping we see Brock Faber stretch that number to six next year.
The Dream. The Grind. The Cup. 🏆 Congrats to Mike Reilly on reaching the top of the hockey world as a Stanley Cup Champion!! #PrideOnIce

I’m so unbelievably happy for KAT man. He’s gone through so much, and he most definitely deserves this win. Just awesome.

Everyone is still going to call it “Williams Arena” or “The Barn”. This gives the athletic department a ton of cash. I’m all for the program adding money like this. It doesn’t change fan experience and gives the Gophers more money to spend.

The University of Minnesota announced the basketball arena at its Twin Cities campus will now be known as "The Barn" after being called Williams Arena since 1950. fox9.com/news/williams-arena…

If Sabev is indeed the third goaltender, the 20 year old from Mounds View will take over for Zach Wiese and finish out the 2026-27 Gopher roster! He posted a .927 save percentage in his final year at Irondale HS and was stellar in the NCDC last year, going 11-3 with a 1.94 GAA.
I see @sabev_alex in the United Heroes League event the Gophers participated in recently.... He is your 3rd goalie for next season. I do not see anything "official", but it's gotta be truth! He's is now on the GPL roster for next season as well as the recruiting page. gopherpucklive.com/recruits-…

Whole lot of green for the Gophers’ new #1 defenseman. Evan Murr is going to handle a ton of big minutes because he can play in every situation.
Making the move over to @GopherHockey next season, Evan Murr has one of the most well-rounded player cards you will find in the NCAA. Excellent metrics across the board, he manned a lot of responsiblity for Minnesota State last season, and outside of a lack of physicality and a high rate of turnovers, has shown the ability to contribute all over the ice.

It’s absolutely insane how good this line will be. On top of that, the middle six of Burnevik-Humphreys-Kvasnicka and Hendrickson-Moe-Moore is the best we’ve had in several years. We’re going to see a MUCH deeper team in 26-27.
Cullen-Mooney-Ziemer will actually give the Plante line and whatever MSU/Michigan whips up a run for their money for best line in college hockey

McCarron probably isn’t a 4C at 37, but 3.3 million will be nothing six years from now. In 26-27, his contract will be 3% of the $104M cap. The cap will hit $123M in 28-29 and will likely rise even further by the end of his deal. This deal will age well with the cap rising.
Replying to @THEOttoJohnson
The only question here is will he be a functional 4C when he’s 37? If you can relatively unequivocally say yes, then it’s fine. Not great, but fine.

I know most of the people who follow me do so for other MN sports takes (mostly hockey), but the run Olivia Miles is on right now is generational and everybody needs to see it. Embarrassing the only person picked ahead of you like this is electric.
HAD HER LOST. 😱

It was such a good decision by the Lynx to draft the MVP with the 2nd overall pick, most teams do not do that

Just baffling how people don’t understand what’s going on in hockey rn. McCarron’s contract is an overpay in a vacuum, yes, but the NHL doesn’t exist in a vacuum. This is a horrible FA class with next to ZERO centers. Getting McCarron sub-4 with the rising cap is a good get.
Michael McCarron got $18M guaranteed and a full No Movement Clause NHL GMs are hilariously bad at this It’s why the same few teams have been legitimately good over the past 5 years #NYR

LENGTHY deal, but $3.3M AAV is very reasonable for a bottom six center. He played up after being traded here, including during the playoffs, so I’m glad he’s back (at this price). We’ll see what Billy G does with the extra money he could’ve taken.
Michael McCarron, signed 6x$3.3M by MIN, is a big defence-first depth centre who wins faceoffs and hits. Extremely lacking in puck skills and pretty much provides offence solely by crashing the net. #MNWild

Good. I love to see the Tommies (or NDSU for that matter) on any Gopher schedule. Bring on new rivalries and prove that you are still the top school in the state. I want to see every D1 in-state and nearby team, especially in basketball.

The Golden Knights have next to nothing available to trade when it comes to assets. The Panthers have a little bit more, but neither team can blow out an offer from the Wild. Go get him Billy G.
Helene reports that Dylan Larkin gave #LGRW three teams where he'd accept a trade and believes those teams are: #FlaPanthers, #mnwild and #VGK.

Can’t wait to see Tanner Henricks do this off a feed from LJ Mooney in four months. 116 days until Gopher Hockey returns.

Unsurprising, but still a bummer. The Gophers just don’t have the cash to compete with Michigan or Michigan State. Will be interesting to see if Larson changes that.
Hearing Landon DuPont is narrowing down his decision for next year. Sounds like Minnesota is out. Expectation is Denver will get Daxon Rudolph. Leaving Michigan and MSU to battle it out. He'll visit the Michigan campuses next week.

Humphreys finished second in scoring on a Kitchener squad that won the Memorial Cup and has a chip on his shoulder after his first go-around at Michigan. Don’t let where he was drafted fool you, Humphreys is going to have a huge impact for the Gophers.

He was a monster at the NTDP, but tried to go to the NCAA at 18 and it didn’t go as planned. A year and a half with Kitchener certainly helped (118 points in 91 games over a year and a half) and now he’ll be 20 and have much more experience. I can’t wait to see what he does.

This is honestly better. Electric crowd pop too. Nothing quite like the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
NHL fans in Indianapolis have no broadcaster audio for Game 1 of the Stanely Cup Final. Here's how the first goal sounded on WRTV with only the in-arena sound.

And people were worried because the Lynx didn’t make any splash signings. Just wait until Phee gets back, then they’ll really get cooking. Cheryl Reeve rocks.
The Lynx's 67 points in the first half versus the Mercury are tied for the third-most in any half of a road game in WNBA history. Minnesota also shot 75% in the first half, the best by any team in a half this season.

I simply can’t wait to see how this comes out for the Gophers. I’m intrigued to see what jumps it predicts for all the transfers and underclassmen (and they are as rosy as I think they will be).
